Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Do you think Intel is actually going to pull itself out of this hole?

Honest question. I don’t, and I’ve been angry at myself for holding on this long. I regret every single day now that I got so complacent over the years. I ignored the warning signs, even when the sirens were blaring. Now, most of us are stuck with very few options, just hoping to hang on to a job here. I’m furious with myself for letting it get this far - for ending up backed into a corner.

No. Intel has NO way to get out of the hole with its current managements (top three levels) who are dishonest, incompetent and political. With the dishonesty and a-s-licking only culture, Intel is doomed.

@ep lol, AMD is still x86 what new architecture? Do you really think that at this point in this nearly 50 year old (introduced in 1978) x86 architecture life span that their is going to be some phenomenal breakthrough that will change the world... please, just let it die. It may be able to reach 75 to support idio-ts who won't migrate off of it.

Just a thought... a lot of elevators around the world are still running on pre-Windows XP operating systems and the hardware is just as old... just like Folger's coffee... good to the last drop.

All it takes is one architecture, AMD proved it

I wonder how long you could get by quiet quitting for the rest of the year. Just answer enough emails to make your manager think you’re busy. Think there’s runway to coast for at least the rest of the year before this starts up again in Q1

If I live to see the day where my old backstabbing managers and team leads get laid off, who reprimanded and interrogated me for caring too much about my job, it will be totally worth it, but it won't save Intel.

@a6 … if not in a hole what term would you use. Clearly it’s not competitive.

No way, TSMC has an army of hard driving managers who hold their process people to task. They have huge scale to leverage to learn faster than Intel
They have all their customers to learn what they need and want.

Here we have e CVP who will still tell their customers what they need and when it isn’t what we have ask them to justify it. Intel has no clue how to be customer or results drive

How much room is there to scale processors, even doing it well?

We will eventually catch up to what our competitors were doing. I don’t see us closing in on the gap. Seems like the gap will just continue to get larger and larger.

I don’t see any magical rabbit Intel will pull out of their a$$ to quickly shorten the gap.

I saw so many senior engineers and top tier talent leave on the last VRP / Retirements package, I thought “no way can intel dig itself out now”

Day late and a dollar short. Over hired in 2021/2022 and pay less than market rate for the talent you’d want to keep. Morale lower than ever. Not looking good

@OP How the company is doing should be completely independent on your career, your expertise and marketability. If your skills are not up to date then not only your employment opportunities are at risk but also you are not an asset to your current employer

I mean at this point is this a real question? Of course not. There is absolutely zero chance Intel pulls itself out of this hole -ever. The sooner Everyone accepts this the sooner things can get somewhat better, but no, it will never return to the way it was.

If you mean can intel compete with Nvidia and AMD? The answer is no, the gap between us is so wide.
But Intel can reinvent itself and position itself in the market differently.
The one thing I am sure about is intel is not a chip manufacturer anymore and will never be, leadership has to have peace with that to save what is left of intel

Put lipstick on the pig, cut to look positive, and then sell for parts for better shareholder value. Doomed.
Some parts will go to Bain private equity, rest to Qualcomm and a few. In 18 months my prediction.

No, becuz it would have started from the "green shoots" that the Pastor was shooting his mouth about since 2022...

Hate to say this due to all the mid-career people who've built their careers and can't retire yet.. but the company will suffer a worse fate than MOT did..

There is zero chance Intel can become successful with IFS. Just absolutely zero.

There is still some valuable x86 IP but that’s about it. That asset is also depreciating fast as competitors and Intel both can use TSMC to compete on a level playing field. It used to be that Intel had a process advantage that fueled a virtuous cycle but that was broken years ago and cannot be repaired.
