Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford is always the last to raise pay and first to cut jobs

No wonder morale is in the basement.

Go to GM. It is filled with toxicity, egos, and bad decisions. Enjoy.

be thankful you aren't agency at Ford. the most you'll ever see is 10% no earlier than 24mo from the previous increase. It's usually more like every 3-4yrs on average, but many go longer without increase. there's always a lame excuse why no increase

We have them resources to feed and house the poor.

We do not have the resources to satisfy the rich.

@ag+1jwbx8jqp Minimum wage was never meant to support a family with stay at home wife. All the "decent" jobs paid above minimum wage, same than now. The issue we have at the moment is that a lot of decent jobs were syphoned to Mexico, India and China. So currently Americans have lousy fast food jobs, or profesional jobs (trade, IT, STEM), with no abundance of middle ground opportunities.

Can a Ford factory employee in America have a decent standard of living? Yes. Less than before, but still could be pretty good, with OT and bonuses reaching $20K extras annually. Are there many jobs like that in America? No.

@b7+1jwbx8jqp I think Universal Basic Income (UBI) is the wrong move, pushed by the left, which allow exactly what they want: many people to be dependent of the government. The issues we have now started with "social net" policies.

  • Medicare, Medicaid and "Obamacare" cost around one third (1/3) of the federal taxes collected (personal + corporation).
  • Social Security takes another 1/3.
  • Debt interest takes around 18%, forecasted to go up. (60% of the US debt was acquired under Oama and iden).

Leaving around 12-15% for paying the government and its 400 agencies, army, judicial, Congress, Housing, SNAP, and everything else. It cannot be. So where the UBI money is going to come from? SMH. Sooner or later, our government needs to raise taxes and reduce expenses, big time.

Workers and their families have been paying for the wrong policies implemented by BOTH political parties. Policies that allow Ford to send our jobs to Mexico, Brazil and India. Even if we survive the next round of layoffs, how are we planning to survive the long term effects of these policies? Around 170 million people work in this country or are looking for a job. Around 100 million are not interested in working. That makes 37% of our workforce is IDLE, and living off welfare. And it is not as easy to fix as "slapping a tariff".

Therefore, live below your means, save money, invest, because when the ride is over, no matter if at Ford or GM, it will be hard. Good luck to all!

Man, I dont know why you are being down voted at all.

I believe that this is reality on a long enough timeline. The ultra wealthy - and they are on both sides of the political aisle - would do anything to minimize costs and maximize revenue. One of those most expensive parts of any business is the people...

Universal Basic Income (UBI) is on the horizon, driven by the accelerating replacement of human labor by AI.
Technologies like Tesla’s RoboTaxi and Amazon’s automation initiatives signal a future where personal vehicle ownership declines to top 1%, and transportation becomes a service dominated by large corporations. As robots increasingly take over labor-intensive jobs.
Wealth will concentrate among the elite, who may leverage their capital to acquire housing from bankrupt workers they laid off and they will rent back to them if they can afford them.
The rich will exploit legal loopholes to minimize their tax obligations, further entrenching economic inequality.

Well, Americans expect to be paid high wages. Most Americans call it a 'living wage'. Implying that they can't afford to survive below a certain wage.

That's all their fault.

Minimum wage was always intend to be a living wage. A husband could work for the minimum wage and afford to pay for a house and car and support his stay-at-home wife and young children.

Those days are long gone now because of corporate greed.

Most corporations - and politicians - have convinced their constituents that minimum wage should not support an adult.

If you want to live comfortably you will have to do what people in LCC do. Live with relatives. Live with other people so that you can afford the basics on a low wage.
