Well I'm finally doing it, I'm leaving this place and taking another job. My question is since it's right before the PA cycle, any chance I can work it so I get NSId so I can get the PIL? Anyone who's left had success with that?

@a6 Very good point. If you express your wish to be NSI, manager may want to know why but could be willing to stick you with it. But then you'll have to wait 3 months before starting next role. If new employer is willing to wait, you could get a sweet 90 day vacay!
Sc--w the severance. Getting PIPed same as being fired. Hold your head up, give notice and leave. Don't sign your OA nor anything on the way out
The assessment process (formerly known as the performance review) is flawed and begs for abuse. This mostly comes down to your manager and whether or not he/she is willing to tank you on purpose for getting the PiL. Very likely, it's going to come down to your specific assessment group and the participants that your manager will face during the process.
If you have a good relationship with your manager, it could be worth casually mentioning that you're interested. Many managers struggle with who to put into the NSI bucket, so there could be a willingness to accommodate.
Make certain that you're willing to live with the NSI and that you're leaving the company. Good luck.

Why would you do your manager a favor and tell him? How could that possibly turn out good for ypu. They are so proud of their system let them know that they are losing someone they ranked high. Do not let them hide attrition by volunteering to be NSI. How will things ever improve if their KOI doesn’t show they are losing people they want to keep?
Do not tell anybody that you are living the company nor your wife. Any leak of information could be the worst for you!Remember the walls have ears on that company.
Just ask your manager to put you in the NSI bucket. He would be glad to oblige any volunteer. The alternative is that your manager will have to force someone into the NSI bucket.
Well, you do want to get the timing right in terms of when to start your new employment (assuming they don't allow WFH - otherwise you can double-dip).
It's fairly easy to get NSI. Speak your mind, call your manager out, and ask questions that are designed to make superiors look like id--ts. If you have some intelligence, you'll be able to accomplish this.
But, you should act quick since the window for ranking is rapidly closing.
AND, whatever you do, don't tell a single person that you have another job, especially if you're still at Exxon, until you've left Exxon (and no longer getting salary from them - e.g. the PIL).
