Thread regarding Ford layoffs

1 day a week no building for 4 days

My department and I believe almost all of Enterpise Technology aka IT has been coming in 1 day a week.
I know for us there is no building we have been assigned to for 4 days a week. So when everyone comes back I feel like this is going to be a disaster.

Expert studies back it up.

Who paid for those studies, commercial real estate landlords? Their bankers? Cities looking for “revenue”?

Weren’t there ‘expert studies’ pre-COVID saying working remotely was the way to go?

Weren’t there ‘expert studies’ saying that cubicles produced higher productivity from workers than an open office?

The plan is simple. Mass layoff just before September 1st. Then there will be plenty of room.

@bf you should tell my 4 bosses that. When they are in a room together it's a big argument no agreements... what collaboration.

DF and other leaders in the company have all stated the benefits and improvements to the bottom line that come with in-person collaboration in the office. Expert studies back it up.

They wouldn't announce this unless they had the space. You folks are grasping at straws.

@a5+1jz0at29q- you say that it's bogus but you forget that Ford hasn't reopened all the buildings it used to have. Also, buildings like Regent Court (a/k/a Blue Lagoon) was sold and torn down. Don't forget we used to have people in Parkane Towers (Washer/Dryer), Pink Palace, Darth Vader, etc. No longer so.

there really is no need for the vast majority of IT to be sitting in an office building. the last 20yrs of have been spent on webex/teams calls for meetings. it is the nature of IT... Fact!

@aw ok it's cool if there not going to assigned me a building much less a desk I will just to whatever ford building i feel like going to. I have master badge access since this isn't about keeping teams together that's fine you just want bad swipes and network sign in I can do that no problem. Don't expect me to work with people who ate in God knows what building since ford won't tell me where I am suppose to go.

@a5

Ok so why is the building i am assigned to only for a specific day of the week and every day of the week there is a different set of people sitting there per assignment. And when everyone decides to come on their assigned day good luck finding a parking spot or desk if you come in at 8 am. 7 am is almost beating the rush.

@a5, agreed, there is lots of office space. At our site, our LL4 is trying hard to say we have no space as he wants to defend WFH since we have a very mobile workforce here for software engineers. But in truth, he keeps throwing up BS about having no empty cubes for people to come back to, but almost every department has 2 cubes used up just storing old benches we don’t even use. And we have full labs that are empty because the planned program never received equipment to build,

I am out the first two weeks of September on vacation and that makes me nervous.

There is plenty of office space. They've cut the work force by nearly 10k in the last 3 years. The "there isn't room for all of us" argument is bogus.

It's a layoff, if you plan on coming in September 1st to comply, do not be surprised if we see cuts shortly after and it includes you. I for one am already applying to new jobs. As I was offered a remote job here in 2023 which has been stripped with no compensation. On top of the fact that the building we were assigned is at maximum capacity when not even everyone is in the office. It means even if I try to comply to these new rules, I already won't be able to do my job effectively, but I won't even have a fu--ing seat.
