Walmart and layoffs go together. The strategic direction is to eventually get rid of all the legacy software, support and processes, then turn all tech over to their ‘partners’ (outsourced contractors) to be run from offshore. Why continue the money drain of the old ISD division? Remember when those boneheads put Harvest in place? Remember how they brought in all those offshores and made associates train their replacements? So now we’re seeing the logical next steps.
So don’t fool yourself. Merchants and buyers beware, AI can do everything you can do. Tech guys beware, they see savings in reducing their butts-in-seats costs, so you’re on the way out, too. E-commerce folks, hate to say this- but you’re probably out soon.
Those at the distribution centers will be ok. Transportation will be fine. Stores are always understaffed so it will be okay there.
If you’re actually in Bentonville, it’s time to get out. Not only does it suk there, you’ll be stranded looking for work once you laid off.
For tech guys, there’s a ton of work in Austin. Lots of AI and development there. Southern California has tons of aerospace related tech work and a lot of defense related tech.
Just get out of Walmart, get out of Bentonville and start enjoying life.
