Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Trumps Healthcare Bill

Trump announced today a plan to reduce healthcare costs (great!). He seemed to take aim at taking money out of the hands of insurance companies. Do you think this will mean more layoff at UHG/Optum?

You have to remember, any substantial change to healthcare would require acts by Congress. While the current administration is hoping to shift some of the current news cycles away from immigration to healthcare, the impact of govern by executive action probably won't result in any more layoffs then are already being implemented. I'd be more curious how the pending DOJ litigation plays out - Kaiser just shelled out over 500 million in fines.

I think they'll find ways to fire you before they have to pay for a layoff. This company does everyone dirty. Keep your head on a swivel.

I thought the same about Optum layoffs and not your political nonsense?

That law is a wet dream for UHG. The ACA market was microscopic for us. The possibility of more predatory HDHP and HSAs is net new money.

Anyone who thinks this law will cause layoffs is nuts. The layoffs come from ruthless profiteering. Company made many billions in 2025.

@a4 trump promised checks from tariffs and DOJ actions, but no money ever showed up.

This will only ramp up layoffs, just like Trump invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota will do.

We will have to see what the bill actually says. It needs to go through congress and I’m sure the finer details will be important in the proposal.

The layoffs are happening no matter what.

The company is doomed due to its own gravitational pull and not a particular politician.

The plan to give people some money for an HSA and not pay their premiums will mean a bigger market for HSAs and super duper high deductible plans. There is plenty of room for massive graft in this proposal.

Trump only cares about Trump. He will listed to whoever hands him the biggest bag of money at Mar-a-Lago.
