Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I’m seriously thinking about leaving

I’m paid well below market and my actual responsibilities don’t match my job description at all. I’m constantly doing work that should be two levels above my role, with zero recognition or compensation to match. It’s exhausting. I have the experience, I’ve proven myself over and over, and I’m tired of being taken advantage of. At this point, staying feels like settling.

Yesterday was my last day, and I feel great. I wasn't even gone before i was asked if I would entertain a contract to work my exact same job for 3 times the salary i was getting. Yes, I'm considering it, but honestly, i'm kind of moved on mentally already as I'm really excited to pursue my own interests for my own benefit, rather than waste my energy and skills helping executives amass millions while they dangle carrots and issue implied threats.

I've been looking to leave Ford for several months, but the job market is horrible. You see it in the internal Govt jobs reports numbers (like Business Services, etc.). It's a tough situation to be in right now as we're in a borderline recession economy. Higher interest rates and tariff uncertainty make this a tough business environment to do hiring.

Better to leave than feel the humiliation of forced termination and lifetime ban, even after aceing on performance , these people will now cookup your performance report because they cannot afford to give severance to everyone now!

@a4

Has it spot on. Recognition doesn't pay the bills and just gets you more opportunities to do other people's jobs.

@OP

There's no thinking about it. Ford pulled ahead customer incentives and pricing. Now sales are going to crater. Think no more, now time for action. Jump ship or stay until RTO in September and the decision to leave will get easier.

@a6 true. It's sad that you have to leave the company to get a pay increase.
Truth is - it's a slow, old car company

Not to mention any OT now has to be done onsite. I will NOT be putting any OT in because I’m not living at the office over the weekend.

Recognition? Like that means anything.
I was recognized a lot in our org for my contributions.

Still got laid off lmao 🤣.
I went from 107k to 130k after getting laid off from Ford. So it was actually better in the long run

Hard truth, you are being paid what you are worth simply by the fact you continue to work where you are. If you don’t believe me, decide what you think you are worth and go tell your boss to start paying you that. When they say no and you don’t leave, you will realize the job economy is very efficient at getting employees for the lowest cost.

duh! Company won't bat an eye when it wants to let go of you, you should do the same and do what's best for you, not the company.

You should strive for as little recognition as possible. Companies will detect this and see if you'll take recognition instead of more pay. You need to be saying "F-U, pay me." They can claim all the work they want. Recognition is the last thing I need because it doesnt pay the bills and just gets you more work.
