Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Lofty expectations for a company that's not profitable

Does anyone find it absurd that folks complain very publicly on Circuit about RTO? The company is not in a good place. You expect benefits like a Google, Apple, Facebook from a company in a desperate turnaround? Layoffs su-k, but newsflash: They've been laying off since the 1990's pretty consistently. This board is turning into a shoulder to cry on but it's not helping anyone. It's like a loser which doesn't bow out gracefully.

We must stay competitive in maintaining up-to-date skills and sharpen our interviewing acumen to be prepared for the worst, so that we do not fear the layoffs which are a fact of reality in the entire labor market. Get strong so you can be fearless

Intel is dead. They just use salary of those got laid off to sustain the company month by month.

I also love reading the comments about the people who say the bulk of my team doesn’t work at the same site so I’m gonna be in a virtual call. That’ll be great when they fix that glitch and co-locate to where the bulk of your team is and not with YOU.

@av sorry to break it to you but this has been happening for the last 10 years.

Other semiconductor companies pay much better and so of course the great talent will naturally migrate there.

You need to calibrate your understanding of “great” because Intel is really lacking in that department.

It just feels so short sighted. We're going to lose all of the good engineers that are able to jump ship, and are left with the dead weight that couldn't find a better job.

EUV steppers don’t cost less because of poor management decisions. management acts like talent should

LBT admitted there was no research or data behind his decision to bring everyone back to the office, it was just what he wanted. It seems clear this is another method for shrinking the employee base. He knows full well there are employees who have moved away to areas nowhere near Intel sites because for years remote work was the norm. Now, just by saying "you have to be in the office 4 days a week" he's forcing those people to either quite or wait to be cut for violating policy. For me personally RTO would have no impact as I'm already close to an Intel site. It also wouldn't increase collaboration or productivity, because my team is in a different state. It would be pointless for me, but I would still play along. If I hadn't been cut, I mean.

Those offices with laboratories all over the place... Unless they don't need those labs, I mean what they gonna do, lease the space around the labs to other companies? I don't see where all the incremental expense is coming from.

This again? There’s zero evidence that RTO will help anything. And it’s costing a lot of money to prepare and maintain the sites. A smart unprofitable company would sell more real estate instead.

@a6 I agree, it's gonna be rough going into the office, but honestly rather RTO than being unemployed -which is still a real possibility still even for those who made it through this CPM. I know a 40yr veteran who had a stroke, I can't help but wonder if this constant worry ate away at him over time. I agree with OP to prepare for the worst, hope for the best. Dunno how they're keeping people from leaving on their own honestly

I love it i read those circuit comments and just laugh at the level of perceived entitlement the employees that write those have. I cant wait until September 1 rolls around and reality hits them between the eyes.

Scammers are losing their high salaries, it’s glorious! During Covid they chilled for about 4 years.
