6 Kmarts List

Finally Kmart from NJ is announced.

OK, y'all, it's been a pleasure making these lists over the last several Years, but all good things must come to an end. This is most likely my last Kmart list, not for some morbid reason, but simply for the fact, that the remaining 6 Kmarts are unlikely to close soon, so this list probably won't be changing.
We got rid of what we could, and through the Years, some have liked me, some have hated me. But I have always tried my best to uphold journalistic integrity. I have never had to retract a closing announcement, and I don't intend to start doing so now. That's why I never ever posted a closing without verifying, double/triple/quadruple-Checking, etc..

Basically, for my last list, what's left now, is 3 stores in USVI, 1 in Guam, 1 recently refurbished store in Miami, and 1 store in Bridgehampton NY, that I confirmed through JLL realty, that is not going to close imminently. So I don't think these remaining stores are going anywhere.

So it's been a pleasure, no hard feelings, and hey, if anything new comes up, I'll be happy to swing by, and make a new list, on a 1-off basis, but it doesn't look likely, so here is (probably) my last one. All the best, y'all, have a great Summer, & I wish you all nothing but the best. Please be well, and take nothing but the best care of yourselves! Bye now, take care!

So, 1 more Time,

6 Kmarts, List

Long story short, we are now at 6 Kmarts total, 2 of which are in the mainland. I have changed my map to reflect this as well:

FLORIDA

  1. MIAMI

NEW YORK

  1. BRIDGEHAMPTON

TERRITORIES:

GUAM

  1. TAMUNING, GU -P

USVI

  1. ST. CROIX
  2. ST. THOMAS -P
  3. ST. THOMAS

Statistics: Kmart absent in 48 states. Now we have 2 states, FL, NY, with only 1 each. There are now zero states that have multiple Kmarts, although the territory of USVI has 3 (2 in St. Thomas, 1 in St. Croix). There are only 2 Kmarts within the mainland United "States", total. Of those in the US mainland, zero, have a pharmacy.

Additionally, USVI has 3, Guam has 1, so there are 4 total stores outside of the U.S. mainland. There are 2 pharmacies in the territories, marked with letter "P" (1 in USVI, 1 in Guam). Total of 6 Kmarts left as of now that are not closed or closing.

Your buddy, Jack, respectfully signing off. Bye now!

It appears all mention of Sears/Kmart, has been scrubbed off from SB360's site, as well. So probably no closings coming, for a while, at least. Or maybe they'll use another liquidation company? Who Knows?

@Yilo+1nV0Ggmm Thanks! About TIME!!! And the (unnecessary) store locator is clunky to use. For example, one can't just get an overall list of stores. I had to keep plugging in random zip codes, in order to see what was listed. But yes, when I put in a random NYC zip code, like 10101, it now (correctly) only shows Bridgehampton.

And they finally removed the St. Croix store that closed earlier, also.

Kmart finally removed the closed New York, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico stores from their (now unnecessary) Store Locator.

Here's a better link to the misspelled 😂 closed sign:

Furthermore, a lease listing no longer has that store as occupied:

Welp, that store is officially closed now. Here are some google images for the last 24 Hours which have a sign (a poorly spelled sign BTW, LOL), stating that the store is closed:

I am guessing that SB360 will remove the listing from their website Tomorrow. Let's see if anything else gets added after that or not.

Apparently that dude just mad another video TODAY, as the sign shows 2 Days left (the store closes Tomorrow). I wish he would shoot it in full screen, but whatever, here it is:

Full disclosure: NOT my video.

Found this video on YT which has signs Saying 6 Days left. THIS IS NOT MY VIDEO. I just found it and am sharing it for those interested. It's kind of hard to see the way he narrowly filmed it, but I viewed it in full-screen on my computer, so it was a little easier to see that way:

So, if anyone cares, there's a YT video (from a few Days ago), that shows the NJ store with a sign stating "9 Days left". This seems to Check out with the September 30 closing Date. I'm not allowed to post video links here (to be clear, it's not my video anyway), but you can easily find it on youtube if you want to see it. Not surprisingly, there's hardly any merchandise left.

Even all the fixtures from the back of the store are already gone, and there is yellow caution tape roping off the majority of the store, like a crime scene LOL!

To find this video, search "KMART WESTWOOD" on YT, and sort by upload Date. Should be among the first few that come up. I wish the uploader didn't use such a small screen, but I could get a general idea what's going on in the store.

And Miami only barely qualifies as "original Kmart", now that most of it has been subdivided out to At Home.

Hey, some nerdy building facts about these 6:

We have 2 former Woolworth stores (VI: Lockhart Gardens, Sunny Isle Shopping Center, both converted in 1998) and 1 former Caldor (NY in 1999). There are only 3 original Kmart stores left.

Yep. Sears keeps their store locator up to date, but Kmart doesn't bother anymore.

So when I go to the store locator website, https://www.kmart.com/stores

and if I put in a random NYC zip code, like 10101, it still lists the stores in Wall & Kearny NJ, LOL, which have long since closed! 😆😁🤣😂🙄

Dude's probably on the Beach somewhere, Beer in hand, Watching the Waves, or playing with his kids, or something.

Meanwhile, incels here are getting their undergarments twisted, and being triggered by his posts, because *he used a format they didn't prefer, or he
Didn't include a long-closed location, that they wanted him to include*.

That, my friends, demonstrates the difference between an alpha male, and basement dwelling betas. Mic drop.

Found 1 of his older lists, from 2019. Some things change.....there were over 100 Kmarts left, back then.

On the other hand, some things don't change.......some people were getting triggered by, and arguing about, his list, back then. Anyway, throwback:

Thank you for your lists. Many of us have enjoyed watching the dwindling numbers over the years.

As I've posted before, TransformcoProperties published a subdivision plan for the Jersey City Sears store a year or more ago. The plan splits the store among four tenants. One of those tenants could be Primark, and another might or might not still be Sears.

Here’s that article but nothing claims that it is 100% going in the Sears spot.

Few interesting, tidbits about this location. It is in Bergen County so it was subject to the rule disallowing it to be open on SUNDAYS. It is the last Kmart in Bergen County, but at 1 Time they had several, CLOSTER, WESTWOOD, ELMWOOD PARK, LODI, & PARAMUS. Now they will soon have zero in that county (and in the whole state, for that matter).

It is in the famous 201 area code, which was the original area code for all of NJ at one Time. Now, I believe that area code is only for Bergen and Hudson Counties. Speaking of Hudson County, that is where Jersey City Sears is, so that's the last store located in 201 area code. Incidentally, those blue laws only apply to Bergen County, not Hudson, so Jersey City Sears IS open on SUNDAYS.

This store has been available for lease, for some Time now, so it's not a surprise that it was closing. The intention was to close this, for several Years now, so I'm assuming they got someone else to lease it out.

Full disclosure, now that this store is closing anyway, Time for a confession. I used to be an assistant manager at WESTWOOD, circa 2001. I hated the company, because they had us working 7 Days per Week, on Salary, which meant no O.T. Pay. I left in December 2001, and found a much better job. But a part of me always wanted this store closed, and now, 22 Years after I left, my wish finally came through, so my grudge is over. I got what I wanted.

There was an article about Primark possibly taking over Jersey City Sears. If that happens, then maybe I'll start doing the Sears lists too. All the best!
