Tariffs on Imports Will Save US Auto Jobs - Buy American!

Other countries like Japan, Germany and China have successfully used Tariffs/ regulations to keep US automakers out of their market and develop their auto manufacturing resources. The Trump auto tariffs will only affect imported vehicles and other manufacturers will have to setup here or be uncompetitive in the market. Michigan has the most to gain from these tariffs!

retiree here. went to a party Wednesday night my neighbor works at CARMAX. Interesting to talk to young people that work there. if they would to buy a new vehicle brand what would it be? Overwhelming Toyota or Honda.
No I don't live in SE Michigan anymore so this is real info. Not surprised when you heard the reasons why...
But again BF and especially JF should already know since he worked at Toyota.. Too bad he did not learn anything about reliability and quality.. but again he is not an engineer but a marketing guy. Good at promoting himself and deflecting blame.

"There aren't many autos with >75% US content. Tariffs will decimate US auto manufacturing."
It sounds like there isn't much US auto manufacturing presently.

I am a bit ignorant.
Does anyone know how much auto manufacturing in the US compares to
how much auto manufacturing there is in Germany?
Has Germany outsourced more or less of their work than the US?

Smells like a 2016 repeat topic.

Did you die in 2016, or get a g-n shot to the head? Nope. That's how much impact all this sh*t will mean to you today.

I work hard for my money. I will buy good reliable products from any company that can provide. So far, the big 3 can't provide what I want to buy.

Big 3 Automakers will have to learn how to make high quality vehicles in US to increase their sales & customer satisfaction. Only way to survive…

funny how US AUTO INDUSTRY cries wolf when it is on them.. Where was that same feeling when those same US companies bought steel from outside the USA? Sorry most of the transplants have more US content than either of the big3.

It surprises me to see the down votes when someone explains how tariffs actually work. Do some research on tariffs, not on the president elect’s plans but on how tariffs have impacted our economy in the past. Tariffs are typically a retaliatory move and not used to boost the economy, although tariffs were used during the Great Depression in an attempt to create more jobs. Didn’t work, the depression got worse.

Yeah, what about all the parts Ford imports to build their cars? They’ll cost more. What about the cars Ford builds in other countries? They’ll cost more. Tariffs are supposed to work by making imported goods cost more so that consumers will buy American made products. It’s not easy to find American made products built using only American made parts. We all know how pricing works, those American products would likely raise their prices because the competition is charging more. Don’t understand how this is a win.

Look it up. DJT proposed tariffs will cover cloths, electronics, toys, food, autos and more. Choose any source you want. Here is one.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2024/11/20/trumps-economic-plans-taxes-tariffs/76461786007/

"The president-elect has floated plans for blanket tariffs of 10% to 20% on virtually all imports, as well as tariffs of 60% or more on goods from China, in a bid to boost U.S. manufacturing."

Consider this, what happens when the counties we put tariffs on imports and those countries retaliate by placing the same or even higher tariffs on our exported goods and services to foreign countries?

Exports go down, jobs will be cut due to lower demand. US Exports are about 11% for GDP to put that in perspective.

It is a lose - lose situation for all countries involved in trade wars.

Get educated on the reasons behind and the results of tariffs over our country' history. Choose and source you like. Here is one.
