Thread regarding SAS Institute layoffs

Waiting for EOL before EOJ

I’m waiting for EOL, which should be worth much more, before EOJ.

I hope JG will live as long as this lady, still in good health and good mind and can still travel at 101. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5sG_wFHVuNg

It's in poor taste to discuss any person's death while they are still alive. But the theory that working at SAS makes a person lazy is interesting. There's some evidence for that 😁!

The old women in The Villages have their own money, courtesy of their late husbands.
EOJ is End Of Jim. He's made it to 81, I think the actuarial tables give him until 86 or so. After working several years at SAS, I've become too lazy to check.

"Much better to look outside of the USA."

Lol! No. Don't be a passport bro. You'll get gold diggers and end up destitute in your old age.

Much better to look outside of the USA.

If you are a single man, move to The Villages in Florida. The women are waiting for you.
I'm working on my Death of Despair.

On a related topic - the longer you wait to retire, the more of your retirement you will spend by yourself.

"American men expect to live an average of 76.1 years, while women expect to live an average of 81.1 years, a five-year difference."

The retirement age for women should be 5 years later than for men. Equity.

American men expect to live an average of 76.1 years, while women expect to live an average of 81.1 years, a five-year difference.

CBO's and SSA's projections of life expectancy at birth are both lower than the Census Bureau's projections (79.9 years in 2024 and 83.7 years in 2054).

What are the odds of living to 90?
At the end of the study, about 16% of the men and about 34% of the women survived to the age of 90. In fact, the authors found women who were taller than 5 feet 9 inches were 31% more likely to reach 90, compared to those who were under 5 feet 3 inches.

Interesting actuarial life table:
https://www.ssa.gov/oact/STATS/table4c6.html

People are very blessed if they live beyond their average life expectancy into their 80s and 90s. Very few live beyond 100. The key is to stay healthy as you age. Without health, everything else is meaningless. When you retire, use what's left of your precious and finite time to exercise daily and cook healthy meals to eat. Stress will be lessened for the most part so you will sleep better. I'd rather end the job myself than let the job end me. Good luck everyone!

Time, Health, or Money. You pick what is most important to you.
Just remember time and health are finite.
All the money in the world won't give you more time or better health.
Look what happened to Steve Jobs.
Retire as soon as you can and able to and don't delay it and regret it later.
Don't chase the money since it comes with stress (mentally and/or physically) and that affects your health.

Do not wait for EOL before EOJ.
If you have enough to retire and do not live lavishly, just retire now.
Do not chase the money. It will never be enough.
Life is short so do not exchange time for money and then die leaving behind all the money saved/invested before you can spend it in retirement. Retire early and enjoy what's left of your life. End the job yourself. It will give you the best satisfaction to be able to walk away from it. You don't need to hold out for VRBP if it even comes again.

Wish they would do a VRBP for employees age 50 and over with at least 10 years of service. I'd take it so fast I'd have smoke trails behind me. Would prefer that to the insult of being treated like a useless hanger on, unable to advance or even move laterally anymore.

Please take care of your mental and physical health OP. Cash out well before EOL even if that means moving to a tiny house and planting a garden. Living simple is better than slowly diminishing yourself in support of an unsustainable Job situation or lifestyle.

Yeah, I thought I’d work until EOL also, but instead I chose VRBP and wow am I happy with my choice.

OP might be referring to the group life insurance payout for employees.

Maybe OP is saying he's going to work until he dies (End Of Life/End Of Job) .. but not sure how that will be "worth much more"?
