Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Honestly, surprised.

It's been about 9 months since I departed GF. Laid off back in December with a decent package. I was lucky and found another job in the Albany area rather quickly and life has gone on. Decided to come back here and see what's going on these days with GF. I had originally thought GF would've been in a better position after the layoffs with some restructuring and cost cutting. But that isn't the case. It appears it's actually become worse. Reading through, seems as though employee satisfaction is worse. I've heard recently that wafer starts are down to 400 a day with multiple tools idled? Also read that GF has just opened a new fab overseas! It's not looking great for US operations. GF has already sold one of three fabs. I don't hold any animosity for GF. I was unhappy for a long time and had quietly quit months before being laid off. I know there are many employees who are unhappy there. My only advice is to leave. There are a ton of opportunities in the Albany region, and many companies are actively hiring. After working for another large employer now, It's a night and day difference from the culture and environment at GF. There are a lot of good hardworking people at GF that are getting treated terribly. Look at the writing on the wall. GF has not invested in the the future for US operations. Even if GF turns things around, and things will pick up, what changes there? GF will remain understaffed and the remaining teams overworked. Management will still be inept and SLT will still bleed the company.

With the amount off shored work in the last few years GF should get zero federal tax dollars.
Foreign company with puppet American leaders selling out their own countrymen.
Watching Fishkill go down the drain, Burlington is next. So sad.

@OP, I've been gone for 6+ months also, asked to be part of the layoff back in Dec 2022 but they wouldn't give it to me, so I left for a new job in Feb 2022. I have to echo the culture at my new job is 1000X better than it was at GF. I enjoyed all the people at GF except HR and the SLT so the only thing that kept me at GF as long as I stay were the people, lots of good ones, some still staying there, and many others have left. It is nice to wake up in the morning and get treated well and thanked for doing a good job and to be in a climate that is very positive about the future and co-workers enjoy their job instead of just having negative things to say about the company. The climate within GF was what I imagine it is like living in a nursing home as an elderly person, you are just watching others around you die (leave or get laid off) and then just keep wondering when you will die, GF is a very depressing place to work. Glad I got out of there when I did and unless the company cleans house in the SLT and HR areas, personally I have zero interest in ever going back.
