I’m not thinking this is likely, but there are other parts of the company that need people with my particular experience and education. Has anyone heard of someone being un-fired by moving to another part of the company?

@OP find a greener pasture. Ford isn’t worth it.
My spouse was SME and the week after getting laid off received a call from the LL5 asking for help. He declined. The LL5 called again saying he would bring him back as a contractor if he helped them. He said show me the contract.
After 3 weeks the LL5 had a 6 month contract for him, but he already had a new permanent job. After that the LL5 manipulated GSRs to ask for help, which was never provided.
Almost my entire team is gone
But still my team has people who are asked to moved to other part of the company so survived this time. But you have to have a great relationship with the decision maker. Like me, I was offered by other team after the layoff announcements. Then it’s too late, HR policy does not allow that
@OP. If you received a package as an employee, it will be harder to comeback. You'll need approvals from an LL4. However, if let go as a contractor, you can comeback anytime.
No - this happened to me in August. I was let go as an SME in my department and throughout the week received from other departments saying they tried to grab me but the separation package wouldn't allow it. From sources within I've heard with the right director approval after a year you may possibly be able to get back in, but I don't know why you'd even want to at that point. I'd suggest moving on, find a new company. Trust me the grass is greener on the other side.
History suggests that the motivated low performers with a personal network find a way back onto the ship. I know of two in my organization.
In previous reorgs, sometimes people were shifted around PRIOR to the layoffs. I haven't heard of this happening after someone was laid off.
I know there is a biast against rehiring. I think Ford may even be more strict and have a never rehire a layoff clause.
You should move on.
Let me explain. I had no clue and no warning that I would be axed today. Had I known, I would have tried to make a move weeks ago. I worked with other activities that happen to need people with my education and experience. They have had people quit and retire recently and they can’t find replacements. When I started asking around, I got what I would call a “non-negative response.” But I don’t k it if they can reverse this separation buggy if they decide I would be a better candidate (I’ve worked with these people for years) than some unknown.
