Thread regarding Ford layoffs

To all young salary FCG employees

Ford is a rotten company to work for long term. I have seen & survived 5 different waves of firings since 2008 without having any internal or special big brother connections. They treat white collar GSR’s like $hit. Trust me.So Please learn from us and take your knowledge to another automaker such as Tesla or GM and sc--w/leave Ford before they sc--w you. Ford is working it’s plan to outsource all salary labor offshores whopping 85% to India, Mexico or Brazil by 2025. anyways. No USA salary needed here by 2030.

@3bxl+1n9I5Rbq,

"Dig your own career grave." Absolutely correct! Also, we will be forced to train the
full-service suppliers, to replace the Ford employees.

It is a well known fact that if your boss tells you to start transferring work to Mexico or train people in Mexico your department is next for terminations. You will be forced to teach them, dig your own career grave, but you do not have to be a fast teacher or a good teacher. Never actually provide your replacement all the information or skills to take you job. I have over 25 years of engineering experience and I am not giving it away. Be the quiet resistance.

I can confirm that Ford's plan is to transfer most LL6 and below positions to low cost countries. I was in a WebEx meeting with an LL1 and they started talking about the strategic plan. The LL1 was total dismissive of GSRs/LL6s value and told the group anything they can do can be done in Chennai and cheaper. It did not sound like they had hard dates but they had a had number of reducing "structural cost" by 1/3. The PLs are tasked with figuring out how to transfer the work rapidly without disrupting operations.

@2cte+1n9I5Rbq's note is a great advice to young engineers.

Somehow many employees were lost between a justice-is-equal daily life and manage-by-favoritism work life. Until these two value systems consolidate, they will continue to collide. Trust and respect are always two-way.

FCG's should know they most likely will not work for the same company their entire careers. Those days are far gone and last existed with their grandparents.
Get what you can, grow your knowledge base and stay marketable. Complacency is the reason most of the blog posters are bitter towards Ford or any number of other companies. Except that life is not fair and focus on what you can affect. It will make your decision to move on when needed much easier.

Ford of Mexico engineers are here in Dearborn working and training on everything. I trained some of the Ford of Mexico engineers and now I am unemployed. Ford is making stealth cuts.. beware.

I think Ford is a good place to hang your hat for awhile. Then get out. Ford is good to build some resume value. That’s it. If you stay too long it will suck the life out of you.

@OP+1n9I5Rbq, I totally agree with you. If you’re young, smart and want to grow in your career then don’t waste your time at Ford. Ford used to be good a while ago but it’s garbage now. All new leaders are from the west coast with ZERO automotive experience and are here to ruin Ford and destroy a heritage of 120 years old.

Ford is no longer big business and is shrinking. The don’t need the people anymore.
