Lately it feels like success depends a lot on who you know at the top. Is anyone else noticing this trend?

@OP you don’t. The system is designed for you to leave.
Thank the lost leader for this mess
The previous leadership's missteps have left a lasting legacy of favoritism and political maneuvering, where promotions are earned through connections rather than merit.
HR's alignment with the company's objectives over employee needs has exacerbated this issue, creating a house of cards that is already collapsing. Many departures have occurred as a result, further destabilising the organisation.
You mean favouritism exists at Appian? Of course it does, if you smile and always say yes, stroke the ego then you’ll get promoted quickly. Challenge the behaviour and you’ll be outcast and left to find your own way
It is sad that these topics/issues are being brought HERE vs employees being able to discuss with their manager directly. HR needs to sincerely step up!
This is the result of handing out promotions based on friendships instead of performance.
Your best chances today are getting close to the AVPs, play their games and smile along the way.
