I’m on my second company and third layoff since 2023, and at this point I’ve stopped pretending to be shocked. Every new job swears it’s different, then the same script plays out months later. This just goes to show that the grass is not all that greener on the other side.

@19k well, BD has many issues but don’t think H1B has a role to play. Number of people on H1B is statistically insignificant. But, I agree that H1B is a bonded labor, especially if someone is from India, so manager taking advantage of that is very common.
@d2 you should join if you’re in need of a temporary job and willing to get laid off for some severance/vacation. But be prepared to work with others who will undermine you, hide things from you, sabotage you and throw you under the bus any chance they get, if it means saving their job. Manager filled FTE positions with less than average contractors and openly stated hopefully they will go first when layoffs happen. Just looking for bodies. Manager also interviewed many qualified candidates, but went with H1B visa holder instead of local candidate. H1B visa holder will likely not argue, will do as manager requests, and not report any issues to management or HR because their stay in USA depends on this job and visa sponsorship. Yes H1B visa employee might be a hard and good worker overall, but don’t think they will help you or will speak up for you. If anything they will play the game and even participate in the covert team bullying, mobbing behavior. speaking from experience. HR and management didn’t help, they brushed it off, stretched investigation out so my reported examples no longer fell within their 90 days window. I stuck it out and reported all, but paid the price mentally, relieved when I finally got laid off.
@d2 After dealing with subpar resources from Capgemini, BD now plans to partner with another mediocre organization, Genpact. The top leaders pocket their kickbacks while employees bear the brunt of it. BD badly needs a leader who is honest and has some integrity left, current ones are piece of shhhhites..
You should only join BD if it’s your last resort. If you actually have other options but still choose BD, that’s just unfortunate. Please share this site with your friends so they don’t make the same mistake. With the current leadership, BD is incapable of doing anything meaningful. I’ve never seen a CIO that duuuumb. The BD team foolishly believes outsourcing is the answer to every problem—even though it hasn’t worked in the past five years. With leadership this clueless, BD is getting exactly what it deserves.
@OP BD has about 4 or 5 layoffs each year. We've stopped being shocked
