Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Feeling severely underpaid here…
I’m an L8 IC (User Experience/UX) in San Francisco and this is my comp package:
Base: $160K
Bonus: 7.5%
Long-Term Cash: $25K
Cisco Stock: $0

That puts me well under what I believe an L8 IC in SF should be making. From my perspective, total comp should realistically be $220K+.
Can anyone here share what other L8 ICs (especially in UX) are earning? Please keep it direct—I don’t need fluff, just honest numbers for comparison.

That's a strange post.

The bonus factor for G 8 is not 7.5% but 7.0%.

There is no such thing as "Long-Term Cash".

RSUs are uncommon for G8. You should get RSUs starting G 10.

As others said, you have the right to ask you manager where you are within your band.

You knew your numbers when you accepted the offer. Why did you take it? I assume no other company paid you more. Welcome to the open market.

Cisco does not pay well. Smart people join other companies. We get what we deserve.

Promotion should be given from one position to another after 4-5 years.

No, it should not. Promotions should be given based on performance, only.

@h7 why aren't you compensated as a part-timer then?

10 hrs of work a week? That's not full time.

They need to monitor actual work vs paying people to do nothing.

You are overpaid for G8 ! You are above average and overpaid.

Promotion should be given from one position to another after 4-5 years.

How many years of experience do you have ? Do you have MS or BS ?
It all depends on that.

Many Grade 10 and 11 are in your pay scale.

The rate of pay is superb because I get a weeks pay for only ten hours work that I do each week.

It is not CA politics that is responsible for high pay which cannot be sustained.

Wall Street expectations and tech companies paying high salaries that cannot be sustained over long term is responsible for high cost of living in many parts of USA.

5-6% of us population in tech are making a lot of money. There might be a big real estate correction soon.

They could care less if you leave but most are too comfy or scared to leave.

@c0 Yet another reason why California policies and politics shouldn’t be replicated outside of that state.

You should start testing waters outside Cisco. Not sure why you so miserable. If you don't like the situation then act upon it. Stop cribbing and start looking for a job.

re: squatters, no not making fun of those that need help, whatsoever. It is the price paid for jobs such as public workers. California has a 12.3% marginal income tax rate and an additional 1% surcharge dedicated to mental health services; to rightfully so cover those workers caring for the folks that need help.

The point is, if you are looking to make more money, the best bet is to move out of the state. The mojo (and taxes) are stacked against you. Significantly.

@c0 indeed it is true. The > Waste Management Worked in San Francisco makes $110k a year. Salary.com.

You’re actually overpaid or paid around the right amount for G8. You can check levels fyi for Cisco UX salaries. Even for G8, most are under $160k USD. SF might have slightly higher salaries than that.

You can make more money than that in San Francisco simply by working for the City; sweeping up dung left by squatters (literally squatting) in the street. Jerry Garcia would be proud of what we are now.

I don't know why someone would work at Cisco and live in a HCOL region. Cisco will simply never pay competitively for the Bay Area regardless of your grade.

Cisco doesn't seem to care where most workers reside. Use this to your advantage.

Of course if you move to a cheaper region, you have to contend with your post-Cisco future as most other tech companies have reverted to some form of RTO, so living in rural Georgia once again is off the table.

@OP is just trying to compare their salary to someone who works at Cisco. How about asking your manager about grade range for your zone if you are not a fake ? It is really as easy as that. Bonus is grade specific as well RSUs to an extent so not much of a wiggle room there outside of base pay grade range

There is no L8. If you were really here you would have said G8 irrespective of acquisition. And what is Long term cash if not RSU ? Cisco does not have Long term "cash" Incentives and definitely not for L8/G8 low level. If you just want to know check levels fyi
