Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

Retiring at Medtronic

I’ve been thinking about whether it’s worth staying here until retirement. For me, it’s not, since I’ve still got many years left and I’m already exploring other opportunities. But I’m wondering, how close to retirement would you have to be to consider staying despite everything?

Less than one year away...and thinking I don't want to waste another year.

@OP Less than 2 years to retirement. If it is longer, I would look else where, but the other side is just as brown (not green). I see that Abbott is laying off technical folks as well.

Look to a smaller company. Lightning Catheter is doing well.

it depends - if you've been there a long time and have the traditional pension type benefits, its worth staying to 55, or if you have LTI's they will vest if you leave after 55, expire if you leave before. If you came to the company in the last 10 years or so and dont have LTIs then whats the point of staying here till retirement?

If you can move on and get some enjoyment the last 5-10 years of your career, go for it. I’ve been trying to do that here and it’s been miserable. At this point I’m hanging on by the fingernails for an early retirement package or the pension freeze date; working hard despite the management incompetence.

I have been here 6 years and want to leave but there aren’t a lot of good openings around me.

Companies are either not paying well anymore or they get 100s of resume for a basic role
