Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

The Time to Stand Up Is Now

The firm cannot function without Limited Partners. We are the engine, the gas, the tires — everything that makes this machine move. The General Partners may steer the wheel, but we’re the ones doing everything else.

And how do they thank us?
By giving us crumbs while keeping the feast for themselves.
By replacing us with offshoring.
By rolling out a half-baked AI strategy designed to “replace entire divisions.”
By telling us to “do more with less” — while they take more and give less in return.

I once stumbled upon a retired GP’s account holding $110,000,000. Meanwhile, most of us have to fight tooth and nail for the smallest raise — squeezing water from a rock.

They market slogans like “Let’s Find Your Rich” while gutting the partnership we built. They preach “One Edward Jones” while treating Limited Partners as disposable. Our GPs aren’t just taking advantage — they’re selling us a mirage.

So, what can one person do?
Start talking. Quietly, to those you trust. Every single LP I’ve spoken to feels the same — the company we loved is being taken from us.

Here’s the truth: the firm still cannot function without us. We have the power to bring it to a halt — but that window is closing as offshoring accelerates. Soon, there will be too few left to speak up.

This is a partnership, not a one-way street. I’m proposing we begin with a firmwide mental health (sick) day on September 1st and 2nd.

Legally, they cannot retaliate. Our unity will send a message they cannot ignore: we will not go quietly into the night. We will not be worked into exhaustion while they line their pockets.

The opportunity to influence change is here, right now.
Spread this message. Text it to those you trust. Share it until it’s impossible to ignore.

Change does not come from silence. Change comes when enough people stand together and say: No more.

would love to know which GP that was. JW was notorious for handing out insane amounts of GP capital to old friends of his that had, in the parlance of Tony Soprano, "No Work" jobs where they had to show up but did as little as possible. Imagine any job in Training or HR paying you 7-8 figures per year??? To her credit, PP cashed that crew out pretty quick. (Except of course for KC, the smile on that guy's face every day is hilarious).

For those of you that grew up at Jones, we need this change to survive. We are ridiculously behind the rest of the industry. The firm has been too nice for too long. If we want our branches to be successful we need to move into the 21st century. Don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone to have to lose a job, and I don't feel like this has been handled with a human centered approach, despite senior leadership's insistence. However, we are ridiculously top heavy with way too many decisions makers and people unwilling to change and work together. The gatekeeping and siloes are insane.

The Kool aid is plentiful around here. We are not competitive in any aspect. People throw around that we're private like it's so much better and a badge of honor - it's not. It has caused us to be slow and antiquated. It boggles my mind that people work here and PAY to be a partner. If you get stock options at a corporation you are not paying for them. Our benefits are a joke. Our pay is a joke. Being private means we don't have to explain ourselves to anyone, just give the associates more Kool aid.

@c4

Um, “branches haven’t been affected yet” by what’s going on? Respectfully, you’re out of your mind if you think we’re not affected.

The stress we’re under out here might be of a different type than HO right now…but DAMN don’t think we’re just out here counting the Benjamins. FFS.

Mr. Jones felt he was treated unfairly by an employer. He left and started his own company that would treat people right.

@bz I agree with your point in the long term, but people calling in sick in the short term will speed up the impact on branch teams and our clients. No one wants to hurt them, but they are the loudest voice. Branches, our only profit center, haven’t been affected by the decisions of the HQ yet. God help them as our Sr Leaders won’t care!

@OP "The firm cannot function without Limited Partners."

EJ most certainly can function without LP.

PP and her cronies are replacing us already with the younger generation.

Who's to know what's going to happen in a few yrs.....

If you've opted to not show up on 9/2 so be it......

Reddit-tier comment. Were you wearing your Che Guevara shirt when you wrote this?

Why didn’t you start your little uprising back when you saw the retired GP’s bank account? Was it ok back then, because you thought maybe if you kissed enough a-s that your account could look like that some day? That should have been your wake up call.

Yeah, your idea is stupid. Welcome to how corporate America is in 2025. EJ has long been bloated. Many there agree

Yeah, I hate to say it, but these efforts will be fruitless. This is just the new way of Corporate America.
