Edward Jones planning layoffs before the end of August

Edward Jones will reduce the size of its home office that employs more than 9,000 people by the end of this month, but it’s unclear how many will lose their jobs or how deeply the St. Louis area will be impacted, the company said Thursday.

They said 700 roles. Some roles could mean multiple people. They haven’t said how many people will be laid off.

@av the number of positions being eliminated is published on the intranet.

They absolutely have a number. They just aren’t going to give out the number. This firm is all about numbers - that is the business they are in. There is a number of positions that will be eliminated. There is a much smaller number of positions that will be eliminated but the resource will be offered a different position (could be lateral, could be demotion - and these people have less than 4 business days to decide to take the new position - if they decline, they are treated like a resignation). And then there is a number whose jobs are not being eliminated.

Three numbers. They just aren’t going to publicize these numbers.

This is called being transparent.

I was under the impression that this would be an ongoing process until the end of this month, that there would be few surprises. NOT that they would be holding an axe over our heads until we find out our fate on the specified date. I originally wasn't overly worried and now it's taking everything in me to continue to show up and do my best. Transparency was not what this was- this was a long and sustained exercise in subjecting your employees to extreme levels of stress and anxiety. Also 5 new outside GP's...I thought we started at the top? No?

How are they going to verify it’s you who they called into the room? I’m sure some of the Gaps have no clue who John Doe or Jane Doe is. Will they say let’s see your badge please or have someone announce to the GP “here is Jane Doe Mrs. GP”. Ridiculous.

@av ... they know the number; they're opting to not be transparent or truthful.

All they're interested in is wreaking havoc into associates lives of the "not knowing" on who's getting called into a conference room or who's receiving the email.

How do they not have a number yet? I mean, we all know the bean counters on the east coast who are part of the consulting team have a number. What scares me is that they keep it hidden and play d-mb like we are just fumbling through this mess together in real time. PP needs to resign and chubak needs to crawl back into the east river where he came from
