Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Stay away

Looking back, I should have heeded the advice to not accept the offer. It’s a very toxic environment. I’ve been lied to, gaslighted, harassed, and had ideas stolen. Even had a supervisor who insinuated he will harm my career for not going along with whatever nonsense he wants to float up the chain. It’s a lie when they tell you to show courage of conviction. This is not the place for a good career or for mental health. Always watch your back because those who claim to be your friend will not be there when the going gets tough. Supervisor and colleague never checked on my well being during the darkest days of COVID. All they cared about is more work products.

Stay long enough and you will have PTSD from the experience. I’m glad I got out and managed to salvage all that is important to me. A career that I can be proud without XOM and health.

Ah yes, courage of conviction - do not EVER demonstrate it.

Unless, it is demonstrating conviction for your something your boss or organization holds dear. Like United Way.

Otherwise, that “courage” and “conviction” can be a career death knell.

No didn’t read the previous post but good to know I’m not the only one who feels this way. Recruiters and managers should be up front rather than glaze over the reality.

I met someone recently who told me she left XOM after 2 decades. She is obviously very smart but by looking at her resume, they did her a disservice in her career progression.
