Thread regarding L3Harris Technologies layoffs

People need to stop fixating on culture when looking for a new job

I see folks turning down solid offers because they read that the culture is toxic or not a perfect fit. The thing is, culture changes fast. One executive swap or a bad quarter, and that collaborative dream team turns into a paranoid, finger-pointing mess.
What actually sticks is the day-to-day work and the dynamics of the immediate team. That’s where your focus should be.

Greed is right. Short-term profits are rewarded by the market. That's the motivation of the boards of pretty much every Fortune 500 at the macro level.

It's short-sighted and stupid at the micro level where you need quality work to go into a quality product. Business cycles can be long and if you keep RIF'ng staff you're going to lose the expertise to make the quality your customers want.

@dw I was a L3 employee for many years and I agree 100% with you but I believe the culture started changing long before 5 years. I also believe all of this started out of GREED!

@OP Wrong wrong wrong. A company the size of L3Harris would take YEARS for culture change. That's how we got here in the first place. Ever since the merge, company culture has been molded and shaped over 5 years to be what it is today.

Who would want to work for a garbage company when all over the internet is information about how horrible of a place it is to work. Welcome to the information age where people can pick and choose where to work and L3Harris is the bottom of the dumpster.

Plus, face facts: any corporate situation is going to have the same type of dynamics going on (good and bad) within its ranks, no matter what their cheerleading "Everything's so great here!" PR, or disgruntled workers' negative laments have to say.

It's the same everywhere you go, no matter what you do.
People are people, and they're not going to change.
You can "find your tribe" within most situations where you're spending time with others who you might otherwise never socialize with outside of work.
Or you can be a loner.

There are the Type-A go-getters, obsessed with climbing the corporate ladder,
the Coasters who just want to get by, doing the basics, while collecting a paycheck,
the Petty Insecure ones, who cause trouble for anyone they're envious of,
the Truly Evil psychos, who sabotage and mess with others just for sport,
the Lame ones who just don't give a cr@p, who can drag down their team,
the Socially Awkward introverts,
the Pick-Me kiss-@ss extroverts,
the Rare Genuinely Nice ones,
& all the rest.

It's never going to change, no matter how much you want to believe that there is some magical alternative corporate situation, where everything will be humming along to your preferred specifications, regarding "culture". It's just going to be more of the same, wherever you go. That is the truth!

In this market, if you get a good offer with good pay & bennies, TAKE IT.
The "culture" is a bunch of nonsense, cooked-up by Marketing and PR - it's not real.
Get as much MONEY as you can, then move on to another company a few years later to give yourself a nice big fat raise. That's the way you work smart.

Get your bag, and just keep on keepin' on, gettin' bigger and bigger bags along the way.
