VP positions

What's the deal with Amex's VP position? As I understand it, VP is what's internally referred to as Band 45(maybe 50? Not sure) so VP at Amex is higher than Director (which isn't true of the big banks like JP etc.). Are the roles advertised externally for compliance purpose only as there are already internal candidates shortlisted? Or are they truly hunting externally? Not hearing anything back for 2 VP roles I applied for - they have been open for 20+ days, still accepting applications and no rejection email yet

@OP
Amex titles do not follow many of other banks titles like JPM or Citi. As for VPs, they are two levels/bands:

You have a VP (B50) that has multiple VP reporting to them and a VP (B45) that would have directors reporting to them.

The hierarchy is as follow from VP:

VP (Band 50) - Has direct reports
VP (Band 45) - Has direct reports
Director (Band 40) - Has direct reports
Manager /Sr. Manager (Band 35) - Can have direct reports
Analyst /Sr. Analyst (Band 30) - No direct reports
Multiple titles like EAs (Band 25) - No direct reports

I believe a VP role in citi would be equivalent/close to a Senior Manager level in Amex.
