Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Why does Intel even offer severance?

It’s not required by law, so this is a genuine question. Why would they pay people to leave if they don’t have to? What’s in it for them, because we all know they wouldn’t take on that kind of cost without a reason? And I highly doubt it’s just about avoiding bad press. So what is it?

Bc they have no sue clauses built in. The company would go bankrupt in court overnight without them with how fab is ran

Hey genius OP? Why would a business pay an individual $30m plus to guide a sinking ship? Why don’t you grow a pair and recognize your worth?

@bd what exactly would be the grounds for suing? They have to give you 60 days notification or compensation in order to meet legal requirements. If it is for performance or noncompliance to policy they don't have to notify you or compensate you. You could quite your job today and not give them any notice. Your employment isn't guaranteed.

@OP I think they make you sign in exchange of severence to not sue the company and waive all the rights!

Why would any high talented individual work at a company that wouldn't offer severance. I mean if Intel wants to hire only the bottom of the barrel, then maybe they shouldn't offer it. Like if I had a best buddy that got laid off and wasn't given severance, I would never work there.

OP must be American. Severance IS required by law in many countries where Intel does business.
