Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

This is how ratings and layoffs are done

First line manager does rating and RSU allocation -> senior management makes changes unilaterally after the fact based on who they like or where they came from without consulting the first line.

Layoffs are done the same way.

First line manager "this is the person we need to let go begrudgingly"

Senior management "That cant happen .... we've already let on (s-x or genetics) go and HR says we can't do another"

I don't need to describe who are easy targets after that.

This company is like the mafia. Your work and participation are irrelevant.

@a9 It's a Systems engineering manager in sales. Obviously you don't understand that your salary is paid by sales.

@OP First line managers usually don't know the layoff is coming until they get the list 48 hours before. I've never heard of one who got to provide input beforehand.

I was an SEM, it’s close to how we did it, looked at historical and who got them previously.
