Thread regarding Ford layoffs

PEP for managers

There should be a mechanism to address the manager leadership vacuum. Many are simply not doing their jobs and are unqualified to have people responsibilities. In 2007, Ford had a headcount reduction phase where they walked out only managers. It was only 1 day but LL6 to LL2 were impacted. The numbers were not very large and a few good managers were impacted as well as some toxic managers.

Some managers hitch a ride on the visibility train by inserting themselves into projects when they start to have traction. Claiming credit for the work of others is a frequent ploy.

Good managers are few and far between.

Some areas are beyond redemption, just outsource the entire team function and fire the entire leadership team. Start with ITO then roll to all the other centers of incompetence.

You seriously think that top talent is left at Ford. They’re all gone. Most of them live in the villages in FL!!

I would agree with OP when it comes to leadership levels in the old technology legacy areas (powertrain and other mechanical) that have no place in Model e. We are exiting products that use this knowledge base and most of this side of Ford still has the old thought processes from pre-transformation Ford.

If you haven't noticed, Model e is being built up with top talent from the outside, with expertise in digital.

You can get a 2nd job at another OEM and do both jobs for awhile. They are all still largely wfh, so this is possible. Of course, avoid lab or plant jobs, where you have to be onsite 100% to fulfill the responsibilities. If you can keep this up for a few years, you can just keep both jobs and retire early.

@OP. We need deeper cuts in management than that. We have too many managers mismanaging this company. We also need to flatten the "leadership" structure, so decisions can be made fast, instead of going up/down the red tape managers. But he-l will freeze over before that happens @FMC. We keep increasing the manager's count, and taking ill advised decisions. The Ford family is destroying the company.

My LL6 is a nice guy, comes from the technical side. I noticed my team is underperforming (I am too). My manager doesn't care anymore. He is concerned, like all the team, with all the instability in the company and whether we'll have a job tomorrow. Why give our best, when nobody cares?

I am seriously thinking of getting a second job, just in case I am let go. Maybe get a job in another company for a couple of months, and if I like it, then leave this company. I even started looking at opportunities, and the market is not red hot, but there are technical job postings out there.
