Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

The 5-day RTO is an attrition strategy, first and foremost

It has nothing to do with productivity or efficiency, but everything to do with getting rid of people for free. This has been the case with every other company that implemented a full RTO mandate, and it will be the case here too. We shouldn’t bicker among ourselves about it. The vast majority of WFH employees have been just as hardworking as those in the office/the field, and I can bet the percentage of slackers is the same in both groups.

So correct on the ‘ disconnect’. We should ask the questions about: do they ( higher ups) spend the company money like it’s there’s ? Do they fly cattle class in tough times ? Do they get paid any less, besides their half / to + millions? Why was not an 1 set work day aside to WFH to be better than the peers and attract personnel? What actions have been taken to outperform the peers when it comes to actual business decisions, besides make the ‘ working average class’ feel worse about the little joy ? Too many unanswered questions, and probably there will be more published health company surveys !!

Honestly, I’m right there with you. It’s frustrating when it feels like the higher-ups are intentionally setting things up to make people leave. CLT definitely doesn’t seem like someone who has the best interests of employees in mind. They're completely disconnected from what people are actually going through.

And you're spot on—losing the small joys we had, like working from home on Mondays or Fridays, just adds to that feeling of being totally overlooked. It’s hard not to feel like we're being treated like expendable pieces in a game that’s not even for us. It’s a rough spot to be in, no doubt.

Good morning lemmings, making your way downtown.

If it's an attrition strategy, how do we feel about working for a company where the nosebleeds at the top actually deliberately studied the question "how can we get people to leave?" And, "what can we do that will make people feel aggravated enough to leave?"

Jon is not a master strategist with epiphanies on the human factors of high-performance work environments. He's not working for the benefit of employees and society. He's a whiteshirted, door-to-door salesman hawking Cenovus shares on a 7.5 million dollar annual salary plus commission. What's that compared to your own expected _lifetime_ earnings?

The loss of the small delight we took in skipping the Friday commute, to work productively from home, is not even a pi-ple on the face of his consciousness.

Feeling disenfranchised, yet? Me too.

The board and leadership are making dodgy moves but they'll never be removed by shareholders. Too much of Cenovus (50% and more) is owned by investment firms that are passive investors. They do not take an activist role. Like or not, CVE will be the Hudson Bay of energy that bleeds out over 15-25 years

@cb+1jqd1qsjs So are you saying that if your leader/supervisor has been recommending that you work from home or even just giving you the optionality and trust to determine if you can work from home, that the leader/supervisor is setting you/me up to be targeted for layoff & severance? Regardless of experience, work ethic, performance ranking, value add etc? Are you saying it all comes down to the card scans and mouse clicks being tracked by our overlords in HR? If that is the case, and it wouldn’t surprise me; THIS is why Cenovus has poor performance and morale across the board.

While @OP+1jqd1qsjs is probably right, I urge you to stay-the-course. Quietly Quitting isn’t heard as much lately but is a good policy in this instance. I see other posts about no longer taking Surface home at nite / weekends, cough cough, 8 - 5, etc. I would extend it to include no longer travelling on my own time. Have to visit Lloydminster? Leave on the Monday not Sunday afternoon. Hear that JR? No more 7AM meetings to align with Lima or Superior. No more vacation carryover to support turnarounds. Make Cenovus fire you !!

Many of those professionals terminated by Suncor in 2023 have found better positions. I personally know one invididual working on a Saskatchewan carbon capture project that is 100% WFH.

It seems like they've been tracking in office days for the past year or so. If your leader was telling its okay to work from home more than 1 day a week, it was all part of the attrition strategy.

Review contractors first especially SAP consultants, project controls and contract analysts. Look at their pay rate and you will be shocked. Legacy Husky contract analysts are also a big joke. Get rid of them first!!! They work from home with occasional travel to office and site. But their productivity is below 50%
