Michigan paid sick time law

Serious question does anyone know if the Michigan paid sick time leave applies to agency people contracted to Ford? Hearing some talk that there might be a loophole in the law because who actually employees you the contract house or the company itself?

Retiree here. Prior to 2009 when they Heav Hoed a bunch of dead weight 25 days of Sick Days was the norm for these dead weight.

Thankfully in the summer of 09’ they bounced a lot of these free loaders out and to the curb.

That's what they give you sick days already for. All this new law does is hamstring smaller businesses that are now forced to deal with BS 12/hr employees put them through. No call no shows, ect.

If you work for Ford this isn't really going to help you.

@OP The contract house signs your checks so they are your employer, technically.

@ad+1jmn5pk6h A (agency) or M (purchased service) doesn’t matter; neither are employees of Ford Motor. In either case, they have an actual employer, from which they receive their paycheck. The sick time law applies to employers of a certain size or larger (believe it is 50 employees or larger), which probably covers the majority of companies Ford would do business with anyway , but Ford Motor plays zero part in whether they get that benefit or not.

Contractor here. Yes, there is state specific mandatory paid sick time. Michigan just adjusted theirs and I'm waiting to see what my small PTO for the year will look like. Google Michigan and the see the 2025 rules.

That said, last year and the year before it was 5 days per year. Some if then can roll over too. It depends on the size of your contracting firm. But, if you're working for Ford, I'm almost positive it'll be 5 days for you too.

No Ford does not (in Michigan or any “at will” state) your employment contract is with the agency who then sells your services and keeps the burden of employment overhead. Employment agencies often make 30-60% over what you get paid for all this,

I don't think even the Michigan Congress knows. Biggest debacle in Michigan legislative history.

Michigan Supreme Court should all be unseated for their role in all of this.
