Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Major shift in employee treatment

Ford's always been big on competition, but I never imagined it’d be fighting for the title of worst employer. The atmosphere here has gotten ridiculously toxic over the last few years. Sure, it wasn’t exactly a dream job before, but this? It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen. I honestly don’t even know how to put it into words anymore, it’s that bad.

I am treated very well. One time I locked my keys in my car and my manager gave me a ride home. We actually stopped at Starbucks on the way to my house and my manager paid for my Frappuccino.

I agree with you 100%. Toxicity is through the roof. In my opinion, it all starts with Farley. He has ruined the culture at Ford.

Ford can be a great place to work. If you enjoy your work and aren't buried all of the time. Or, if you are buried all the time, if you at least get some sort of respect or feel valued when you complete something, it can be ok. I worked in a corporate role that had a lot of in-plant responsibilities. That was always an overflowing bucket of you-know-what, but it always felt like we were all fighting the same fight and they were appreciative when I accomplished something or solved a problem.

I find it much more demotivating when I am in the corporate office more. There is always a feeling of 'who is doing what work' and 'do the right people like me'. People would have way too much to do one week and then another week everyone would be stretching out menial tasks to make them take time so that they wouldn't get additional work handed to them. Honestly, it sounded like a good situation at first, but trying to stretch 10 hours of work over 40 hours a week got to be very frustrating.

Lastly, if you are in with the 'in crowd', you'll probably be fine for the most part. As much as everyone here complains about the favoritism at Ford, if you can play the game right, it will be good for your career. And while Ford is the worst for favoritism, I've worked at other OEMs (American and foreign) and they all had some degree of it. So, if you can stomach it, be sure to laugh at the right jokes and repeat the right things back to the right LLs and you may end up in the Friends and Family.

@OP "atmosphere here has gotten ridiculously toxic"
Are you talking about managment, co-workers or both? I've been here for many years and I don't feel the ratio of d**ks to helpful people has changed much.

It's happened before. Who remembers the ABC rankings ripoff from GE's Jack Welch? I was a top performer (was O back then) and in 2 years I was a C in the new system because I was the only LL6 with no direct reports. I was on my way out but fortunately the program was ki-led first.

Have some self worth and get a job at a company you love. Quit complaining over something in your control.

America must be a terrible place if you can’t move to another employer if you don’t like the one you are with.

This is the same guy who posted yesterday that he was falling asleep in a meeting. Now his boss called him out on it and he whines that he isn’t treated nice. Snowflake.

Get to work or get out, no one is forcing you to be here.
