ExxonMobil plans Singapore aromatics units maintenance
Published date: 08 November 2022

ExxonMobil plans to shut its aromatics units in Singapore for maintenance next year, according to market participants.

The firm plans to shut its Singapore Aromatics Recovery 2 (SAR2) between May and June 2023 for a 45-day turnaround maintenance. ExxonMobil also plans to shut its SAR1 in February next year for maintenance.

SAR2 was previously owned by Jurong Aromatics and is integrated with a 100,000 b/d condensate splitter that can produce 800,000 t/yr of paraxylene (PX), 438,000 t/yr of benzene and 200,000 t/yr of orthoxylene (OX). SAR1 can produce 530,000 t/yr of PX, 580,000 t/yr of benzene and 380,000 t/yr of toluene.

The Jurong Aromatics Recovery (JAR) site has been offline since January 2021. The upstream refinery is expected to be shut for a turnaround maintenance starting in mid-April 2023 for 30-50 days. It is unclear if JAR will restart after the maintenance. JAR has the capacity to produce 420,000 t/yr of PX, 330,000 t/yr of benzene, 242,000 t/yr of toluene and 206,000 t/yr of OX.

ExxonMobil declined to comment.
