Maybe I'm too pessimistic, but I won't be surprised if the next year turns out to be much worse for Ford and the employees who will still be here. That's one of the reasons why I no longer think it would be so bad to get severance pay soon and leave F. Are there any "brighter" predictions for the coming year? I doubt it.

I'm not optimistic for the next year after meeting some of my new "colleagues" that are taking over work for those that were cut. A month in and they're already falling on their face showing they can't even accomplish basic tasks.
I firmly believe that between the last 2 rounds of cuts we got rid of a lot of the people who were keeping our broken processes moving forward. Launches going forward are going to be massive clusterfucks.
Finally, a voice of sanity!
@OP. I agree with your view. Increased competition in the auto industry, inflation eating the disposable income of people, supply issues (increased prices, availability, competition for limited resources), we are looking at the downturn of the industry.
Yes, I know it is a cycle, but the company squandered money and resources in silly projects, not taking full advantage of the upturn. This mean FMC is not ready for the down part of the cycle. At the same time, the company is undoing itself, letting go the best employees to save some measly dollars in pensions, trying to compete with start ups, and following the IBM playbook to the letter.
Yes, IBM transformed itself into a "LEAN" company, keeping NA costs down by outsourcing 90% of the work. At the same time, it went from a major powerhouse to another declining American company. There are many articles about the failures of IBM and its business decisions, but it seems BF/JF have chosen to ignore them.
I see FMC, at best, as another struggling giant like IBM. Most probably, I see FMC as Sears, bleeding slowly to death, or like Chrysler, bought by another company and keeping only the best selling brands/models.

If you think it will be bad, grow a pair and quit.
