Offered role at Billings Refinery

Been offered a transfer to Billings Refinery. Anyone work there with insights as to what the culture is like there? Is it heavy in politics? How are the BTLs? Is there a group to avoid working for?

Why do you think you have a choice?

If you love Montana you won’t want to leave. If you don’t love Montana it’s awful. Sorry to say but it’s difficult for non-white people to live in Billings. I recall a black person moved there and couldn’t transfer out quick enough. Asians will be known as the “Asian”.

Our non-integrated refineries are not long for this world. I wouldn’t want to find myself working at either Billings or Joliet when the music stops.

You sold me! Everything you mentioned that was negative to you was positive to me.
Now I am single and old, but hear that there’s a lamb up there around every corner.

Getting “sold off” in an asset sale might not be such a bad thing at this time! Could be a flight to quality.

@OP My advice is not to relocate for or because of EM or any other company.

As for politics, Montana is a rural, red state. Some people like that. Personally, I don’t. Hence why I choose not to live there.

Culture-wise, Montana is big into the outdoors. Again, some people like that.

Montana is spread out and isolated, with very little to do, much like west Texas. If you’re young and single, you will hate it. If you’re old and married, maybe you’ll like it.

It gets cold. Really cold.

It’s more expensive than most people realize, especially when it comes to eating out. Montana has a state income tax too.

Maybe try visiting first…..

Do you want to work at a second tier refinery in the middle of nowhere that is constantly being marketed for divestment?

Aren’t you worried about being sold with the refinery like Barnett team just was? They have been trying to sell that one for years.

I wouldn’t consider it unless you are okay with being sold off with the plant or have a contingency plan in place to cya in such an event.
