Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Old timers need to bow out

Most of the existing execs need to retire with their golden parachutes now….Nobody w/ >30yrs with the company should still be a key decision maker for 2030 or 2050 vision that we’re pushing…and we need to change our PIP system. There’s no future for our company if we don’t make these and other pragmatic changes.

@1fci - for God's sake, stop blaming all boomers for the company's problems. What fraction of the boomer population do you think actually had any say in the decision making process ? I was with the company for 3 decades and in that time, I saw many people try to convince manager to take a different direction. Did they listen ? Did they fcuk ! I tried to talk sense into them myself, and just saw my ranking suffer as a reward. So listen - there are plenty of boomers who tried to save the company, but the Good Ol' Boys in Dallas (and Katy) just didn't want to listen

Experience matters. We need people who've weathered multiple oscillations in energy, the economy, etc.
We need people who think clearly and know how to execute.
All this other sh-t sounds like D&I.

If you are referring to the boomers as having “backbone” and negotiation skills…. Look no further the past two administrations. Utter disasters. Backbone? Our ceo should’ve been buying up all these small operators when there was blood in the streets, we knew the commodity prices were coming back. The “boomers” took a ride on the greatest generations coat tails and destroyed this company and our nation. GTFO of the way and let the folks that can figure out how to connect to the wifi have a crack at it… can’t do any worse.

Commodity company.
Thinking is not needed, no matter what age or condition.

@zsq+1eXOLpMQ So true! As a gen xer it's so easy for me, I just listen to what my 3 or 4 supervisors, advisors or principles tell me. No thinking required...

Still getting paid...

GenX? Agree there aren’t many of them. They all jumped ship in the early 2000s. Go from being a latch-key kid to being supervised by 4 bosses (direct and dashed-line, as though that means something) and see how that feels.

You can change execs as much as you want, if they’re coming from the same rotten system it makes no difference. It might make a difference for you, since only an aspiring exec would think as shown by your post.

You can have Gen X or Millenials being the key decision makers, however if their thinking is the same as predecessor, it will not make any difference. If they are afraid or being conservative in making decisions, it will still be the same. The courage to change has nothing to do with age. You can be millenials but as results of brainwashing, you still will not make the wise decision :p

With the earnings bonanza to come due to evolving global geopolitical issues, no way. Folks will enjoy their last couple years padding things nicely.

In Upstream that means both President go and a few (4) VPs. A lot of the executives in Upstream are less than 30 years now.

@OP Not disagreeing with you, but millennials/zoomers aren’t exactly full of great ideas either.

GenX doesn’t really matter. There aren’t a whole lot of them, and they’re not that different from older millennials. Move along, nothing to see there.

Same thing in politics. Time for Baby Boomers to enjoy their retirement and let Gen X do something before the Millenials take over.

Very nice wishful thinking. >99.99% chance that it will never happen. The >30-year team will never let it happen.
