why downvote that post? it's a good question especially if you're unhappy.
here are some reasons, maybe more than one applies:
-
H or L visa, your residency depends on employment at GF... maybe you wait for GF to sponsor your GC (good luck, have nothing against people in this position)
-
family keeps you in the area and no equivalent jobs around here
-
you tried leaving and came back (masochist?)
-
you tried leaving and got uncompetitive offers
-
you tried leaving and got no offers
-
you don't want to leave before relo stipend clawback
-
you don't want to leave before retention bonus clawback
-
you're milking GF until it becomes unbearable (for your own sake you should get out before you reach that point)
-
you don't want to leave your comfort zone (stop complaining)
-
you don't want to let your team down or smth
-
you are loyal to GF no matter how much GF lets you down (been there)
-
you don't actually want to leave and just like shitposting here
-
you're afraid of the unknown
-
you're indecisive and don't know what you want
All of these are valid reasons. Don't feel ashamed or embarrassed. You can always take steps to improve and eliminate them as reasons. Unfortunately, for some of those, time is the only cure.
I've been at GF for10 years now and am currently an upper-level engineer. There are always highs and lows. Things will get better and things will get bad again. It cycles. If you really don't believe this then you should do your best to find another job.
I hit my lowest low at GF late Spring this year and spent ~15% of my time a month ago applying to and interviewing for jobs. I turned down a few offers, 2 of which were substantial increases in pay; benefits and perks were mostly the same. Not bragging, just giving some context.
The point is GF isn't that bad, and I know I can ride out this low. I had nothing to lose and had an open discussion with my manager where I told him about hitting rock bottom, and the reasons for it. He committed to helping me through it and improving conditions. And, if things really don't improve, I have confidence that I can find a job elsewhere.
Take away the sh---y decisions like rebranding, switching to Microsoft 365, shadow layoffs/outsourcing, and low raises (GF has done mid-cycle raises several times before). Think about answers to these questions: How bad is your job (what you do daily)? How bad is your manager? How bad are your benefits and perks? Will your job exist, or be based at your current site (not Bangalore), in 5 years?
And I realize GF isn't a monolith. I am guessing most posters here work at Fab8. Even then working conditions across the different modules and departments vary widely. I suggest considering what you can do to improve your current job and take steps to do it. Position yourself accordingly and see how things go.
