Thread regarding Ascension Health layoffs

Ascension doesn't care

The way this company treats employees clearly shows that they couldn't care less about us.
I know that and mostly everyone knows that, but they still allow themselves to work until the burnout! It is by no means clear to me why people still give their best when they know that Ascension does not appreciate it at all?

Anyone who has been in---and has successfully extricated themselves from---an abusive relationship, can provide the answer to this question.

I will say when they laid off the Service Desk. They offered me less than what ascension started me with over 8 years ago. When I attempted to Negotiate they didn't want to or wouldn't budge. I tried to get within 2 dollars of my hourly rate but they said it wouldn't happen. Their benefits were garbage and they only allowed 10 days of PTO vs the 4-5 weeks you can get from other jobs. The mgmt team they brought over were the micro-managers and the team leads they promoted are the dummies that don't know anything. So I left completely and the folks that I talk with that still work there are Fed up and close to their breaking points. Also I've been told their VPN / Networks just randomly kick you off while in the middle of doing something important. Then they want to hold you accountable for their networks failing. Don't get fooled follow you heart when its time to move on, just do so.

I like that part about not for profit being for profit. Shying from right under a billion dollar company the tax incentives are there for them to continue.

RE: Blorg.

Insightful. And yes they do just end up hiring their friends. They must get great compensation since it's been a revolving door at that level since 2015.

It’s amazing how the last few decades the monster sized non profits now resemble the Blorg.

They realize they can act more like a big corporation because no one stops them year over year as they morph.

Every health care organization needs a Senior Vice President of innovation and Chief Digital Growth strategist pulled from consumer products corporations right?

“ The Blorg are a typical race of fungoids inhabiting a tropical planet. These fungoids are large columns of fungal mass that over the course of several millennia gain sentience.”

Except these Blorg don’t want to be your friend, they want to hire theirs.

I remember asking my supervisor if Ascension would cover the cost of my professional certification exam. That request was followed by a chuckle and “Are you kidding? No way.”

I also remember asking if I could travel to a professional conference and participate with members of my industry association. “No.” (Even though the conference topics were directly-related to my role.)

So I reached into my pocket and covered the cost of seminars, online classes, and other learning initiatives sponsored by my professional association. And I covered the cost of my professional re-certification. Only to later hear my Ascension supervisor and certain colleagues mock my efforts to stay current with industry training.

And I watched helplessly as Director-level personnel wasted Ascension money on poor purchase decisions from which I was excluded.

It wouldn’t have been so bad, if it weren’t for the realization that it was my TAX MONEY that was helping to SUBSIDIZE Ascension.

Their Directors and management team, in general, have no right to exclude employees from the decision-making process — especially when a huge component of what allows Ascension to operate is PUBLIC MONEY.

I’ve come around to the notion that we need to put an end to fraudulent “not-for-profit” enterprises — make them operate as a for-profit entity — and if they can’t turn a profit, then they deserve to lose their position in the marketplace. No more tax subsidies for these types of “not-for-profit” organizations!
