Thread regarding Sears layoffs

I think that the Sears and Kmart chains are in trouble

In both chains the product selection is not too good and there are empty spaces in the stores. They may be in for a rough time if they dont get in more items and better quality merchandise.

I believe that they declared bankcruptcy some time back , so they have been in trouble and ARE in trouble. Hopefully their executives will get on the ball and do SOMETHING to get customers back into their stores and websites.

Spot on. This didn't happen on one CEO's watch....it's a result of many decades of greed and corruption at both companies.
But the demise of these two companies is just a symptom of a much larger problem....deregulated capitalism, with its emphasis on short-term profits by almost any means.
Corporate America has 'transformed' itself from customer-driven to greed-driven. If it is close to legal, greedy executives will do anything for a buck under the guise of capitalism. Morality, equity, and society don't matter.
Today's capitalism is failing as we breathe right now. The middle class has already been shattered through the greedy executives accumulation of wealth and mistreatment of employees. Unless we reinstate rigorous oversight structures such as the Fairness Doctrine, and Glass-Steagall Act, the vulture capitalists will not only destroy the soul of man but it will destroy man's habitat as well.

There are 122 stores or fewer right now that are not (yet?) known to be closing. 41 Kmarts, 81 Sears.

"Company continues to flourish" ????? Lampert started out with over 3,000 stores ....Now there are less than 190 remaining with stores continuing to close and sales numbers continuing to plummet.....How is that in any way "flourishing"?

Zpo i dont think so given history. How many years in a row now have "will sears survive the holidays ?" articles all over the place ? 10 years now ? Yet the company continues to flourish.

Lampert has had 15 Christmas Seasons to try to turn things around and each Season has gotten worse and worse for the company.....This year will be no different, assuming the company even survives that long.

Soon it will be time for planning and buying for the all-important Christmas season. Good holiday sales should turn both chains around and out of the doldrums.
