Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Is this legal?

I report to American leaders (yes, that’s plural) who report to American managers (yes, again plural) who report to American VPs (yep, plural again). When I say Americans, I mean that they’re located at EM in the US! How is this legal in Canada?

I endured and reported multiple cases of both se-ual harassment and bullying while I was at Imperial for two decades, and sought to advocate for others being se-----y harassed at field sites. They were investigated but never actioned as far as I could see. My American manager fully admitted their fault and yet our HR told me they couldn’t sanction them because American HR was responsible for them and here in Canada we couldn’t do anything. The field sites we abdicated any responsibility by saying “it’s contractors, we can set expectations but we can’t tell them what to do”. So glad I’m gone. What a pathetic failure this round of management has been for the last decade as they’ve run this once great Canadian business into the ground for the sake of EM USA and their own severance pay.

Well this is no different than buying a computer or tv made China. We pay the manufacturer, not a local company. And the manufacturer pays taxes on profits in their respective country.
You know if we got any lithium extraction or battery manufacturer here in Alberta, it might create other job opportunities so employees aren't dependent on imperial or EM.
The main issue is that there is no competition amongst employers for employees.

Everything is legal in this Trudeau’s era!

Sending all task to third world countries and not paying taxes in Canada for those tasks are completely illegal. No one is highlighting this to media.

The management that matters (CEO/CFO) are seconded from EM. The Canadians are over paid lackeys who simply dance to their tunes and have no authority other than to blindly rubber stamp EM's decision. It is all legit because these actions are covered under management services agreements. So if someone from Bangalore or Buenos Aires demands that you to do work for them, saddle up and comply.

I know cases of bullying, physical & se-ual harassment, and intimidation within IOL and ESC. How does this organization protect its most vulnerable employees when the F'in leader/manager is in Texas or Malaysia? Seriously, wtf. Where is the workplace protection?!

People in EMIT have been doing this for years. In fact, some reported to Supervisors in Brazil or other third world countries....
