Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Standards have fallen drastically

I'm pretty sure that some of the employees who work here now in the past probably wouldn't even be able to get a job here due to lack of competence. Will standards continue to fall? It is difficult to work in a workplace that is becoming mediocre.

We’ll look who interviews a hot HR lady and a side kick clown. They pick the ones who they feel they can have power over.

Having done hourly interviews for 20+ years, you will be amazed at the quality of the applicants, or lack of! The best of the group was picked. The issue is that a PC or cell phone doesn't teach people how to work with their hands and do typical manufacturing tasks. And anyone smart knows that they can make more money working in the trade unions vs. the IUE and not have to put up with the pecking order of the GE union. And lets face it, union work force training is lacking due to hourly folks not really being interested in it. Hopefully the union leadership can make some recommendations on training their representatives will benefit from and actively participate in.

The standards dropped well over 20 years ago. By my tracking, nearly 30 years ago. Some would disagree but they are entitled to their opinions. There was a time when a high school drop out with a GED didn't have a chance of even pushing a broom, let alone being allowed to test. Now I'm surrounded by them. This is well before the T-Rates were even a thought in the back of corporate's head. Lets not even pretend that's where the division is in the standards. The standards are so low now that before you can hold somebody to them, you have to dig for them. It's nothing new to us old timers. Anybody hired this century doesn't' nearly half the amount of grit that the person they replaced did. The old saying goes that Hard Times create Strong Men, Strong Men create Good Times, Good Times create Weak Men, Weak Men create Hard Times. Figure out where you are in that timescale and you'll know who you are. By the way, those Strong Men who are created by Hard Times are currently children right now.

Plenty of Jobs out there. Go look somewhere else. If you don’t like it. Quit. Pretty simple! You aren’t force to work at your current job.
