UAW Demands 40% Pay Hike in Labor Talks With Detroit Automakers

United Auto Workers union is pressing for the substantial wage increase for factory workers at GM, Ford and Stellantis

A UAW spokesperson said that during the current contract, the average CEO salary at the Detroit car companies has increased 40%. “We believe UAW members deserve the same if not more.”

Needless to say, with this new hard line, there's going to be a long drawn-out strike right around the time that we are supposed to return to the office 5 days a week with pending layoffs and a 25% paycut.
Wasn't too long ago when we had to cross the picket line to get into the Warren Tech Center. It took forever to enter or exit, while being called names.
Things are heating up as things slow down and life is about to get a lot more uncomfortable for everyone.

"The people who keep talking about bailouts "
Who's asking for a bailout?

"If you mismanage your business, you should go out of business."
Fair enough. But don't cry when the mid-west goes into a catastrophic economic meltdown. No one will be able to "capitalism" their way out of it.

"Businesses should live or die without government involvement."
That means no government regulations. Are you sure you want to go there?

The people who keep talking about bailouts don't believe in capitalism.

Businesses should live or die without government involvement.

If you mismanage your business, you should go out of business.

The old GM is too big to fail argument.

I already kept em afloat in 2008…if they can’t manage a business correctly let go. The American government let several car companies go in the past ( AMC, Packered, Hudeson, etc.)

Maybe they should ask Korea for more money and call off the layoffs

GM sure got a lot of money from Korea to keep manufacturing operations there.

There have been many new uaw contracts since the government loan. None resulted in a single bankruptcy.

“ GM will always seek bailouts, handouts.”

Yeah, that’s just not true. One loan. That’s it.
You can lie and distort somewhere else. Most of us know history.

“ If she needs a loan or bailout she'll have to wait until after 2024 and hope for a new administration.”

  1. GM sold more cars than any other automaker and made record profits. Where are the losses that would necessitate a buyout? Get real! Do you live in reality or do you live in a fantasy world?
  2. Another administration? When Biden and Mary are super tight? You are not using critical thinking.
  3. Why do you want GM to fail? Do you understand what that would do to the economy in the Midwest? It would crush people financially. That’s not something you should root for!

Bring your popcorn folks I can't wait for the BS Mary will claim in DC when begging for a loan.

Mary,

I expect a thank you card in the mail at the minimum. Still waiting for the one from 2008.

There's an old saying that managing programmers is like herding cats.

They won't pull together because they're always going off in different directions thinking their way is best.

So they get taken advantage of by the companies.

Instead of asking why the UAW is asking for a 40% pay increase, ask why Detroit auto company CEOs got a 40% pay increase.
