Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Think GF IPO – think layoff imminent

Watch out - hiring freeze put in place and targets set for each department to shed headcount and to beef up financials in preparation for IPO. Silent layoffs advised by the McKonsultants for this round.

Heard many people from sales support were let go yesterday in the US (20% of the team).
Lots of good people from the Malta area working in HR/Finance are now gone. Finance jobs are transferred to India. Engineering jobs are transferred to Bulgaria (GF bought a small company there). Infosys (India) is taking care of the IT support.
Program is called WorkSmart internally. Thanks McKinsey.

“Silent layoffs were prescribed and planned by McKinsey” –
instead of laying off employees in small numbers every other day during worsening COVID-19 crisis – save 10’s of millions by firing the corrupted McK – that’d the real Leader do.

@mpqj wrote " ...Tom doing great for GF" - really?
Tom doing good for himself and nobody else -
early this year he’s made commitment to GF employees “We entered this pandemic together, and we’ll exit it together”. Yet another flip-flop resulted in mass workforce reduction in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic.

Layoffs in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic will hurt company image: state and federal legislators (subsidies), local communities (forget employees). Will they manage to keep it silent and still meet the ambitious labor reduction target? Smoke screens like fake job openings, “lets grow together”, what else?

Its already in motion. They also ramped up hiring in India. So i guess the the priority is given to software or simulation based positions.

I think no need, voluntarily attrition is still high and cheaper than a layoff.
