Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

re-org in Feb

Just heard a rumor that there will be announcements on re-organization in early February. What will happen after re-org is everyone's guess.

"There are 85 active positions listed for America, none that I clicked on are labeled "internal only"."

a listing isn't necessarily a job these days
sadly nothing is what it appears to be
I'm just not smart enough to know all the gimmicks

Stellantis is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands (not America).
There are 85 active positions listed for America, none that I clicked on are labeled "internal only".

Stellantis hasn’t hired externally in 2 years, new job postings for purchasing must sit in Mexico City. Sad reality of the robber Barrons running corporate America. I suspect GM will freeze external hires and VSP soon.

You keep mentioning that.
It's likely a temporary problem for you.

One thing is VERY CLEAR, this GM Layoff board is populated by primarily GM (Generous Motors) HR and other paid reps.

Keeping the staff/workers at bay by downvoting and fighting any discontent. “The Punishment will continue until morale improves”. Good job GM management utilizing U.S. Taxpayers $$$$ to squelch Engineers & workers voices.

This is different from the un-patrolled Ford & Stellantis boards, GMs layoff board has clear signs of paid GM staff intervention.

And no one wants to live in Michigan unless they were born there.

One easy way to see if the new executive hires from Silicon Valley are trying to make a difference in the automotive industries is just by looking whether they will move to Michigan or not. So many hired from Silicon Valley were never bothered to move to Michigan. Because they knew after a year or two, they would move on to new companies. Auto companies experience was just a bulletin point in their resume.

@3ikn+1qCLg9nw, the Reddit website in you post has a lot of gold. Like another OEM who brought in a former Tesla/Apple executive, hoping suddenly they can build the same level of EV like Tesla or the software quality will be on par with Apple. Even a fool will know it is impossible. You do not provide the same or better competitive salary, frequent reorg, and frequent voluntary(or involuntary) buyout/layoff. What can you expect? Last few hires from Silicon Valley left in a couple of years, and left a trail of destruction.

Here you go. Same discussion only with actual details:

New Apple managers are on board with big plans and an active re-org plan, including poaching talent.
I'm doubling down on my suspicion that the re-org will be company wide, after layoffs and project cuts within the next three months.

If there is a re-org, I suspect it will be company-wide. Why stop at manufacturing?
GM wants to be a tech company. Imagine all the changes it will make for IT to make that happen. Very likely will include a full replacement of staff? Can our coders create something like GM's answer to IOS and an app store with apps? If so, why haven't we seen it? Also would need to integrate those apps with modules and features on the cars. Not trivial stuff. This kind of thing would involve poaching technical experts from apple/google.
Also, in product development there are SO, SO many silos. That's only fixed with a massive, chaotic re-org.
Because re-organization is a severe disrupter of production, I suspect it's done soon after mass layoffs and project/program cancellations.
I expected chaos in the next few months and this seems logical though it is just a rumour.
I also think it's fair to say that EVERYONE knows something nasty is coming.

Watch for a freeze in internal self-directed job changes. That is what happened on the night of the long knives in Feb. 2018.
