They won't need layoffs

They've already announced return to office. Lots of people will probably quit as a result. So layoffs for the sake of cutting work force won't likely be necessary.

RTO is a blue collar mindset. It only benefits the interns. The company has to justify the expense of owning and operating unoccupied buildings. No occupancy means no tax breaks.

At the end of the day "Doers get more done" are the kind of people I want to work with. You can wear shorts and a tshirt. I could care less and I dont need a wellness check.

RTO announced. 2-days a week mandated if you're a certain distance from an office, and forced quarterly meetups with your greater org.

End of April is your due-date to jump ship if you haven't. Chances are we'll see another layoff before the end of the fiscal year anyways. Play your hand wisely.

From a company-wide standpoint, no, RTO has not been announced. We'd be foolish to think it couldn't eventually happen, but this is like all the layoff announcements. If someone claims layoffs are happening every few weeks, eventually someone will be right.

My boss has told me he doesn't care if I go in once a week or once a month. Again, that could change at any point. And you know what? I'm a big boy. I own a car. I'll go in.

@8lvm+1qukjpXk - a few sites went through "right sizing" which left them with less space than employees for that location. So unless they anticipate more layoffs or attrition to accommodate those changes, I don't think it's possible to have a full RTO.

@tmp+1qukjpXk, better to be a snowflake wu-sy making fat stacks at home than a corporate c*ck stuck in a bland and stale office. I guess some people really do like wastefully spending time and resources so they can have just a shot at climbing the corporate ladder.

It's laughable that in 2024 anyone would argue for being in-office for work that can and should be done remotely. Top talent has tasted the freedom of remote work. Autonomy is one of the top indicators of job satisfaction. Do you want your top performers to leave?

RTO only benefits power-tripped middle management placeholders and C-level execs who have to justify expensive real estate costs to the board and stakeholders. Forced RTO hurts the people who actually do things for the company and make it profitable.

SLT members jumping ship left and right means the board or C-level execs have made some decisions that do not abide. It's entirely plausible to think that decision involves RTO discussions, as this has helped some companies trim their workforce without having to lay workers off (which is usually expensive).

NetApp's corporate mindset is stuck in the 2000s and 2010s. It's 2024: remote work is here to stay. The company better get with the program or it'll continue to bleed.

RTO isn't being announced by and large. It'll come in waves and stages for each BU. Performing an RTO in stages gives the company a chance to incubate the idea to ease it in for rejectors. It's a clever approach as ntap won't catch the ire of employees all at once.
