DEI on its last leg?

Corporations are starting to dump their DEI programs. How long before Oxy joins in and dismantles its DEI program?

OXY did not need to copy cat DEI programs. It was unnecessary. Should be unwound and make better use of resources. OXY was already diverse and inclusive so why build up the DIB group and incorporate into the learning modules classes on race, microaggression, etc. We shouldn't be policing racism and scrutinizing people for hidden bias, microaggression etc. We should be focused on our jobs and doing the best for OXY..

VH wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for DEI...always has and will be an incompetent back stabber.

I would have thought one of the best forms of diversity is from those with real world experience from different companies who may have approached things differently. But all I've ever heard from management at Oxy since arriving is "that's not how Oxy does things", or that's not the "Oxy way". I get it. That's fine. But keep shutting folks down with those kinds of snotty responses and attitudes, and nobody will want to share their experiences or thoughts with you guys. It almost seems like Oxy managers are promoted for reasons except the ones that actually matter like people and management skills.

How will ‘VP of DIB’ look on your resume when you eventually get canned? Isn’t that like being the past head of the 8 track tape division?

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but even nature has a way of weeding out the inbreds. By the way all you managers can relax. Oxy chose DIB. Not DEI. That’s a B for Belonging. Not an E for Equity. We get it.

I have yet to see that DEI decreases OPEX and CAPEX or that it increases production.

I have yet to see anyone in management really passionate about DEI. It is just a check the box exercise for most. And that is why you fail.

We have diversity because it’s supposed to generate better decision making, ideas and results. But from what I’ve seen Oxy is not a place where diversity is welcomed. Managers are like Paris Hilton who just want an entourage supporting what they think. Diversity just gets eye rolls.

Just don’t join one of their groups. No one joins they will see the results. I am busy working and don’t have time for it and get my work done. It is very simple. If someone disrespects someone that bad just fire them and move on. No need for this club or that club because we should all be adults and treat everyone the same no matter race, gender, etc. If Oxy needs DEI there is a bigger problem that just firing can fix. That simple.

From my observation, unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your POV I guess) I don’t think it ever really found its footing at Oxy like at other places. So if they do unwind it, it probably would go unnoticed for the most part and not have much impact.
