I'm looking for a job but I haven't received any offers yet. In the meantime, I fear who will be the next of my colleagues to leave, even though I am glad when any of these hardworking people manage to get out of here.
It is stressful waiting for someone to leave because I know in advance that part of his / her job will be piled on my plate.

GF HR operates like some kind of totalitarian state police led by the key HR loser in chief.
However state laws do protect. Easily checked online.
They cannot do anything to you unless you took company trade secrets which they are few if any of value.
Do NOT worry about who will leave next.
Worry for those who stay.
@7xmb I will recommend people to apply to GF all day everyday if it means extra thousands of dollars. I'd also recommend that they do their research

As a semiconductor professional for over decade or more and current Globalfoundries employee; I would not recommend coming to Globalfoundries.
Unless your daughter has no option, then yes best to go somewhere else. Her resume will also significantly benefit with a different name on it other then Globalfoundries.
Now if it was her only option then Globalfoundries would be acceptable to learn some of the industry practices and lingo, etc. It would be acceptable for gaining a little experience. But that’s it.
I only recommend GF to new graduates if they need experience and are desperate for work. It is not a place to have or advance a career. Put in 2 years, get experience and then get out and find better career opportunities elsewhere.
"I was explicitly asked not to send goodbye emails but I sent them to a selected few."
How petty, so glad my daughter decided against the summer intern program there.
Hey everyone just FYI,
HR has a lot down on paper that they give and show you that is unenforceable (at least in United States).
They know this but keep such language in there to make you think that it is a legit binding clause. But are fully aware of push came to shove that it is u actionable.
The best example I can think of is the noncompete clause that was folded into the ibmers transition onboarding forms. Basically ibmers who were forced to GF could not go back to ibm for a certain amount of time (2-3 years?? Something like that). Well in NY this is directly in violation of an employees right to work as it limits/deprives employees of area of gainful employment, etc. there is more legal terms to it but take away is it’s unenforceable. But seeing and reading it m, it scared a ton of them from even thinking of moving out of GF. I think there was someone in news who challenged it in court and won.
But bottom line - like many many other things on paper at GF, it’s lies or smoke and mirrors. Just be aware of this and have a legal expert friend check out anything you feel might be off. Trust your gut you are probably right and it just another Formal on-paper Globalfoundries lie or trick.
@2tlz
The HR just said it was a must else they couldn't process my clearance.
I was just too lazy to argue and wanted to get it done quickly.
Anyway, I don't think they can even enforce most parts of the contract as you know how "capable" our HR or legal teams are. They cannot prove anything that I got someone out as everyone was thinking of leaving.
@2xlm how did they make you sign it? did they threaten to withhold your vacation balance?
I was explicitly asked not to send goodbye emails but I sent them to a selected few.
I am also made to sign a contract not to poach anyone within 1 year of leaving. Nonetheless, I got my successor a new job elsewhere when the handover was supposed to complete months later.
Actually I was told by multiple friends who left that HR asked them or prevented them from sending those notes.
No explanation why, but the common thought was to downplay the amount of people leaving and morale. Imagine how frequent we would get these in our inbox. It would lower morale of those staying and motivate them to leave as well! Both HR wants to prevent
I miss that the exit emails are no longer sent, no one even cares enough to say goodbye.
I have noticed too everyone gets used to the new norm. Someone leaves all their responsibilities get divided up amongst team and it’s always only suppose to be temporary until they can fill the position. But over time it just gets folded in with you previous work as they can not find a candidate to fill the roll. So we become numb to it and it’s the new norm.
It’s only when a second person leaves everyone gets reminded of all the extra stuff they have been doing and now there will be more.
Fahk GF. This place is horrible. That’s why they can’t get anyone to join.
Yes, very worried. Each time someone leaves I think to myself "it's only up from here", and then another person leaves or some other bad news is shared.
I can blame myself partially for giving GF too many chances and thinking things will improve. I firmly believed that it's always up and down, which it has been in the past. Only now it's continuously down. The only ups are when I'm able to actually forget about everything for brief periods, until I get a reminder of some kind
I hear you. But it’s not worth worrying. Just keep chugging a long and keep quietly grinding out job hunt.
Truth is there is nothing to worry about. We are all extremely safe from being let go or fired. Because everyone is leaving. So just do what you have too. DONT over extend yourself just chug along and bide your time until you can pull that ripchord and eject out.
