Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Favoritism

How is it that certain departments, say EHS, can now promote someone to management, with only one person reporting to them?

Is this payback for something? Blatant favoritism? How do you justify a first line manager with only one report?

Most managers in the fab have a minimum of ten people, and then you see something like this and wonder just what's going on.

The hypocrisy and back room dealings here are unparalleled. I'd love to say I'm surprised, but sadly am not.

AME is worse as it is full of incompetent managers including VP. Whole team should be fired.

@7otv Mind sharing the name of that senior manager?

It gets worse than that. There is this senior manager , G9, with not a single direct report who introduces himself in external forums and customer meetings with the grand title of “CTO for automotive Radar! “ . To make matters worse the guy knows zilch about automotive let alone Radars! How that reflects on GF , one can only imagine.

I'm guessing D&I. For some, it's a very easy way to rise to the top.

I don’t think mgrs, especially once your @ L8 or above, have a very differentiated salary vs an IC. Normally a single digit spread.
Yes, may look good on a resume, but that’s it. Maybe it will help them leave GF.

How can human resources sign off on this, it just cheapens the title?

an improvement over 3-4 years ago when there were handfuls of level 7,8,9 managers with ZERO direct reports

look for this buzzword: special assignment

They either know someone or checked all the right boxes. Bonus points for both.

We already have too many managers. Seems like for every two people we're finally able to hire, we create one new manager.
