Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Life after Imperial

I was laid off in December being an experienced hire and visible minority. I was kind of relieved but still was unhappy. I can tell you now that I am happy I left this toxic company. I worked at other operators like Suncor, etc and Imperial work culture is the worst by far.
Now I decided to work as a contract and I have several clients that I am working with. I managed to save the severance that they gave me and now I am making more money than I made at Imperial. I don’t need to look at double faced puppet managers , don’t need to listen to BC read his name from a paper given to him by his superiors at XOM and most importantly need not to worry about the biggest deception call the “ranking” system which is totally rigged.
I was blessed by leaving Imperial and honestly if you think you don’t fit you should be jumping ship and leaving this toxic place.

Imperial salary is the same as other competitors in the oil and gas, however other companies like Suncor, Cenovus, etc provide bonuses and stock options that make Imperial’s package lower than its competitors.
It’s because most employees at Imperial came out of school, they have no idea what other companies pay. Don’t let them fool you by saying they are better or equivalent to other companies, it’s a lie

Multiple offers, though probably at salary levels 30% lower than XOM

IT people are getting multiple offers. There’s no shortage of work with the right skills.

Getting another job was mainly through networking, being an experienced hire means you have worked elsewhere and if you have a good reputation your previous employers will be willing to bring you back on board, maybe as a contractor.
If you stay your entire life with Imperial like some people do, it becomes harder to move on since they put you in this XOM cage where you don’t get to interact with other industry colleagues. They barely allow you to attend industry training, conferences, etc. Even the move to QP I think was meant to keep you away from other industry networking.

Congrats. At least you are relived from the Imperial unproductive and hilarious procedures ( use laptop headphone for phone conversation even in the office, change scanner settings each time for scanning when you are super busy, volunteering useless committee, pretending to promote company culture, lying how you overcome your fake disability / diversity). You don't have to listen funny pretending lectures from dept. manager why it's so important to hold handrail, not to talk by cell while walking in the QP pipeline and how to save billion dollars by checking phishing emails!

All experienced hired will be fine as they already have good experiences from other companies in Alberta. Due to covid and Alberta's market some are struggling to find opportunities quickly, however it's reasonable, they will get work either sooner or later.

I'm glad to know that you are doing well. Can you please share as to how you managed to get a job so quick after being impacted by the staff reduction in this market environment? It'll be of help to many of us including myself.
