Maybe some off-brand children run things down under?

I've heard the Aussies are massively under the pump by some dreadful sounding folk up in Dubai. The higher up the chain you go, the worse it gets, apparently.

Instead of cutting hardworking, talented people, SAS Australia should consider starting at the top. After all, why keep a leadership team that’s out of their depth, constantly at odds, and seemingly allergic to accountability? Infighting and a lack of mutual respect are practically their specialties, and they’ve mastered the art of deflecting blame rather than solving actual problems.

Despite their glossy claims of being a “great place to work,” the reality tells a different story. This year alone, they’ve managed to lay off at least 25% of the workforce—while promoting those who excel at poor behaviour. And instead of focusing on, you know, running a successful business, leadership appears more preoccupied with updating spreadsheets and congratulating themselves for? well, it’s unclear what. Maybe it’s time for a fresh start—starting at the top.

You never can tell. Some cases are obvious. Others, not so much.

good luck, all. hope you get a VRBP, a good severance package, a better job, a promotion, holding on while tolerating the stupid 100 person meetings .... whatever it is you're seeking.

Related to the topic...

The US election outcome will change the pace of future layoffs, as well as influencing a sale or IPO. No exactly new news, it has always been that way.

It's done in waves so it doesn't trigger a Warn Notice.

"The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988 (the "WARN Act") is a U.S. labor law that protects employees, their families, and communities by requiring most employers with 100 or more employees to provide notification 60 calendar days in advance of planned closings and mass layoffs of employees."

yup that's how they do it out here in the real world as well. they claim everyone will be so much more "aligned" and efficient and we should be happy and embrace change and the wonderful opportunities (new boss who knows nothing about you or anything else, but played musical chairs well, and the mysterious disappearances of so and so "pursuing other opportunities"). so much fun.

@2ame+1vfe4PY2 "SAS keeps layoffs small to fly under the radar."
But they also know how to play the game to avoid disclosure. Imagine a game of musical chairs, but you take away 800 chairs. When the music stops, everyone left standing gets the boot. But, hey, it wasn't a layoff! It was a REORGANIZATION!
There was a purge back in 2019 or so? Some good friends in Education were affected. In the SWW employee directory, they were still listed but the email was something like "unavailable". So I searched on that string - and got 900 names. Whole groups were let go. And it never made the news.

There’s a rumor that the SAS CEO did listen to one of those young Wall Street folks, several years ago. It’s one of those rumors that rings of truth.

The story I heard is that SAS hired McKinsey to consult. The young consultant advised, “You’ll be obsolete in five years. The very best move you can make is a mass layoff of 25%.”

The SAS CEO listened, but did not take the young consultant’s advice. He paid them, and gently kicked them out of his office.

However, since then, SAS has reduced headcount by about 20%, without a mass layoff.

This was done mostly through voluntary attrition and buyouts -- at the employees' choice. Even the small ongoing layoffs were accompanied by generous severance packages, above industry average. SAS doesn’t have to do that.

I have no reason to love SAS. I was treated badly by some of the managers. I thought most of them were poor at their jobs.

But if you look at how this decline has been managed, the SAS CEO has been doing what must be done. And he has done it more kindly and gently than anywhere else in this industry.

2ame+1vfe4PY2 and no one cares other than SAS employees, their families, and curious ex-SAS employees.
And here lies much of SAS's downfall...it's private ownership model means very few people give a sh-t, so the media and industry analysts are simply not interested.
"I don't want some 20 something year old Wall Street banker telling me how to run by business", he once said. Well perhaps if he had had one of those bankers in his ear, the business would be in the sad situation it's now in.

No information (unless given by a third party newspaper like WRAL) vs possible misinformation here. There are no reliable sources because SAS keeps layoffs small to fly under the radar.
