Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

What's with this media blitz claiming GM is the global leader in EV?

GM has 9-10% of the US EV market, tesla has 60%.
GM builds EVs in mexico, tesla's are made in america.

What's with all the media appearances by Biden, and Mary claiming GM has led the ev revolution?

They're not fooling anyone, it's embarrassing and comes off as hyper insecure because it's so transparent. Why not just take the high road and thank tesla for their contributions and taking the risks early on so we can all learn from their mistakes.

Thanks for the clarification. This feels like a bit of a moonshot but GM needs a win here. For the sake of its economic impact - especially in Southeast Michigan - I hope the platform succeeds.

"Can someone please clarify, is the Ultium platform in use in any current production GM vehicle?"

No

Also, different configurable platforms in cars is nothing new. You can get the same engine in different vehicles.

I'm can't remember a point where GM was able to make money on affordable vehicles. I guess in the long run the powertrain costs will go down but it will be the same for the competition.

It's starting look like they're rushing forward to exactly where they were in 2007.

When I look at Volkswagen I see professionals solving problems to make EVs happen.
When I look at GM I see slogans, advertisements, and unadulterated hubris.

I could see General Motors being the top supplier of electric vehicles to State and Federal Government fleets. There's money to be made in satisfying those contracts.

The consumer market may be tougher for GM to compete in. The CEO mentioned 30k as an affordable price point that GM had an offering in (I can't remember what vehicle she mentioned as an example). There's a lot of strong options for the consumer at 30k, which are not GM.

I also enjoyed this article by Reuters about how Ford and GM are battling for third place in EVs.

I watched the video...
It warmed my heart to see the general public finally get a glimpse behind the veil of paid promotion at what "General Motors culture" really means.

At this point I honestly think they are proactively trying to rewrite history. Because they already have the infrastructure they think they've already won some game that they've created. The company claiming the most inclusive environment is trying to dominate everyone else. This is the General Motors culture in action as led by a true #GM_Lifer

GM has NEVER taken the high road. It's always been blame others, and deflect.

It seems fitting they would try and fake it until they make it. Deception runs deep with this company, and many people the country over know this. That's why they won't purchase their vehicles in the future, and why GM has had to change up it's business model to make it more inclusive to community service. Taxi's and community transportation to the world.

Right, that's like claiming Mary Barra is innovative. She merely takes her orders from Elon Musk(EV) and Google (AV).

The perception game, Gm wants people to think they are leading the EV revolution. No wonder you have to play the perception game as an employee in order to “grow”. Makes me want to pu-e.

GM is part of the machine that is our 2-party government, and Tesla is not.
