Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Does This Happen at Your Store Too?

Does this happen at your store? Older, experienced associates applying for positions and not even getting an interview while the person who gets the position is from home depot or one of the newer associates at the store.

Case in point; our newest head cashier is a 19 year old (with an attitude problem) cashier who has been with Lowe's about 5 months. Our 40 something single mom who has been with Lowe's for six years wasn't even given an interview. Single mom asked Ops manager why she didn't get an interview; she was told she was unreliable. Meanwhile 19 year old calls off frequently on weekends.

A millwork specialist who used to be the full timer in hardware/tools applied for the vacant department supervisor position. He's been with Lowe's for six years, four in hardware/tools and the last two in millwork as a specialist. The guy that they hired is an annoying jerk from home depot who thinks he has/knows all the answers. He frequently says "at home depot we did this..."

It's getting so at Lowe's if you want to get ahead you need go through home depot.

Then the "young kid with an attitude problem" ends up doing all the grunt work, staying late, and doing all the lifting while the old guy/gal complains about how they deserve a raise.

Meanwhile neither of them get a raise. So who exactly is the s—er in this scenario? Hard work doesn't pay for little people like us, and for the higher ups their station is apparently merit enough for reward regardless of their competency.

If you need a refresher for how this works go watch Office Space. We all have eight bosses and we don't get more than $2 a day if the store does well. It's not worth it.

I've seen so many older people complain about this. And nine times out of ten, they have attendance issues or spend all day talking about how valuable they are. Then the "young kid with an attitude problem" ends up doing all the grunt work, staying late, and doing all the lifting while the old guy/gal complains about how they deserve a raise.

That happens at our store quite a bit. Experienced people being passed over for new blood simply because their position may be too difficult to fill with capable talent. To be brutally honest, my store tends to hire strictly "attractive young women" for the front end because they hope it will bring in more customers from the younger crowd as well as perverted contractors. If you want to move up, transfer stores! Better chance because they won't have to fill your position.
