Thread regarding Cenovus Energy layoffs

You have to pay for your own life insurance??

Enrolling in benefits and you can’t allocate flex dollars to life insurance or accidental death or even the LTD?? So it’s a payroll deduction for that, but you can’t opt out. Wtf. Why’s this even a “benefit”????
Meanwhile they go ehhhh look at the shiny object over here called $6K for mental health …..

Get your head out of the sand and maybe you'll figure out why you have to pay for your own life insurance. Would it have anything to do with the spike in life insurance claims of working age people in 2021-22? Hmmm, I wonder..bhaaa...bhaaa

They cut back flex dollars for benefits. Did they ever return those flex dollars back?

@5srt+1gRdwr6d Thanks for confirming that you are grossly overpaid given how much time you spend on “thelayoff” and other internet sites when you are supposed to working. No problem though, you should be able to find work as a Liberal internet censor once CVE terminates you.

Looks like I struck and nerve and fear with you guys. How dare staff consider an option to look after themselves.

Don't be so scared.

Lol, looks like I struck a nerve. I see you did nothing to address the accusation that you're bad at your job.

It's like a CVE bingo,

  1. Overpaid. ✓
  2. Ungrateful. ✓
  3. Bad at their job. ✓
  4. Trying to beg, borrow or steal a pair of ba--s. ✓

There was a post on another companies layoff page that seems timely given this discussion. Paraphrasing the process:

  1. Go to your Dr. and obtain letter for one month off for mental health reasons
  2. Tell HR you are off for one month, provide letter, say no more
  3. Have them contact insurance for STD
  4. Take STD leave and look for additional work or parlay it in to LTD

I guess several people at the company did this to sc--w them over and the companies premiums skyrocketed. Some returned and submitted resignations other returned and left with a package.

Food for thought. These corps are not our friend!

@3jyr+1gRdwr6d you’d give your left nut to make what I make! Maybe you got more than a 3% raise because you were grossly underpaid for the last 10 years at Husky. Then again, maybe you are grossly overpaid given how much time you spend on the layoff.

I hate to break it to you but a lot of people received raises greater than 3%; maybe you're just bad at your job?

Wow this is the epitome of whining. Some you must be still living at home with your mommies the way you complain.

It’s NOT cheaper…not even close. So they are making record profits, highest stock price in 8 years and the best they can do is <3% raises that don’t even come close to keeping up with 8% inflation and now employees have to pay their own life insurance and benefits???? It’s almost like they are begging employees to “seek life elsewhere”!!!!

I’m pretty sure even the paid life insurance through benefits is way cheaper than getting it on your own.
Everyone really rails on HR in this org - my HRBS both legacy and now have always been super helpful and good people. The processes might not be great but the people are not bad people.

This new HR department, largely comprised of ex-dog pounders is truly screwing employees at every turn. First they lowered bonus targets, substantially in some cases; and now they have instituted employee paid benefits and employee paid life insurance!!! How are they getting away with all of this?? It’s like a dictatorship.
It’s almost like they are trying to encourage attrition in this market.

Long term disability is usually employee paid - that way, if you are unfortunate enough to have to collect, the proceeds are tax free. (If employer paid, the benefits received are taxable.)
